I had one and returned it as it would not pass the box test in the horizontal. That coupled with the fact that the crosswire is way too thick for use on a precision rifle was all it took. Prolly would make a fine big game or long range hunting scope but as an instrument for precise shots against small targets.............not.

Thanks for the reply Hillbill. Again I am no optics expert, and actually I have very little knowledge of the internal workings, components and assembly of same of scopes but now understand why for applications where a scope is going to encounter extremely harsh use or recoil like in military applications or sitting atop heavy recoiling DG rifles fixed power scopes were long preferred for obvious reasons; fewer parts = less that can and will brake.

I have no doubt there is a direct correlation between scopes with AO, SF and are designed for their elevation and wind to be endlessly adjusted countless times and suffering a higher rate of problems and or failures than scopes that only adjust for parallax and power, or not at all.

It's been an eye opening experience for me now that my shooting/hunting requires I use optics with more complicated designs and internal workings than scopes that I have used for the last 20+ years that were of the set zero and for get it type.

I was not attempting to stick up for Zeiss or any scope I the $1000 or higher range of cost. I was just utterly bewildered how scopes that I own costing considerably less could be apparently far more durable, but now that I realize I wasn't making an apples to apples comparison as none of the scopes I own are designed to have their elevation and wind constantly adjusted and reset to zero.

As Hillbill stated. There are very few that we have found that hold up to this brutal recoil. I have 2 5x25HD. One is the original and the other is the replacement. Their customer service is second to none. But my first one failed after only 12shots. I still have them both and they will land on a centerfire someday. A common load for me is pushing a 275 gn bullet @over 3000 fps and a 300gn bullet at 2850 to 2900 fps. All my new builds wear a NF 8X32X56 NSX. I really do like the Ziess. Just not on a brutal recoil gun
