Youth 22 LR

I am looking to buy my daughter a youth 22 long rifle. The plan is to have it available for all my kids as they grow. My local shops do not have much for youth guns so I will likely need to buy a gun without holding it. I have been leaning towards a CZ 455 scout but want to know what other good options are other there. I am not opposed to buying something a little nicer but certainly don't want anything too expensive or a really cheap rifle.

The Ruger American comes with a youth stock or a full size stock that is a modular unit that is changed by removing the rear sling swivel and putting on the alternate part. The gun is bolt action and uses the 10/22 mags. They are accurate, light and great for the kids and with the simple swap you may find you like it too.

I bought my son a CZ scout, but in the 452. Trying to teach him open sights, but they are not the best sights for super tight groups, but good enough. I recently put a scope on it. Holy cow will it shoot tight!

What he said.....I put a Leulold 22 scope on my Ruger American and with the short stock module installed and using CCI Quiet22 ammo, the kids can hardly get enough of it.

The Savage Rascal is an excellent shooter accutrigger.

+1 for the Rascal. If you're starting them very early, it's hard to beat the little Savage. Very nicely designed and proportioned for small children and the little things can shoot!

There is also the "Cricket" single shot bolt action. I bought my Granddaughter a TC "Hotshot" single shot break barrel, but they are no longer made. If you can find one for sale somewhere, it has removable spacers for length of pull. When teaching her, I liked having only one shot available at a time, instead of possibly feeding a live round each time from a mag.

I just ran across your request from last April so you have probably found something by now. I am selling a CZ Scout .22 long rifle youth model. I have photos of it I can send you if you wish to see it. I have not listed it yet. It has a 10 inch length of pull and I have a Bushnell Banner 3 x 9 scope on it. It is like brand new and I have been amazed at the quality.

Keep a check on gun broker, every now and then a Remington 521 youth comes up. Great rifles with peep-sights that shoot pretty good.

"The Savage Rascal is an excellent shooter accutrigger."

I bought one of these for use by 4 grand kids. Will be the first to say it LOOKS like a bonified POS and it will never be an heirloom.

Now for what actually matters in a get started youth rifle. It has a rudimentary rear peep and a post front sight (none of my grand kids will shoot a scoped rifle until they can shoot good scores on the 50 and 100 yard NRA small bore targets)
the accu-trigger is decent, it shoots surprisingly well with the old CMP white box 5% guaranteed misfires per box ammo. It is user friendly for very small framed shooters and it is very affordable. There are upgraded rim fire target rifles in the safe for them to move up to as they grow and develop their skills.

I bought one of these for my daughter a few years ago. They did and may still offer it in pink real tree. She loves it!

I believe you are correct and I'm pretty sure you can get one of the little Henry's in some kind of pink camo but back when my dad bought this one for my daughter, all you could get was black and my friends at Defensive Edge Rifles did her little Henry up in what they call "Chick Web" and she was thrilled with the new paint scheme.

Also, the trigger from the factory was soooooooooo bad, it was extremely heavy and crunchy if I recall it was well over 8lbs. It tuned up nicely and is right around 3lbs without all the crunching and a mile of trigger travel before it finally went off.

Not sure about any of the other little kid 22's but these Henry's have nice sights on them with good contrast between the front and rear and are easy to see in all light conditions.

She's in her mid teens now and I asked her awhile back if she maybe wanted to sell it, I got a very quick, NO NEVER!, response so I guess we're keeping that one forever.

Yea the trigger was terrible! I did a trigger job before I even gave it to her. Fortunately a simple trigger and hey give you plenty to work with, LOL.The sights are first class, a pleasant surprise especially given he price range. She's been shooting it about 2 1/2 years and loves it. And it's HERS :-)
