In Kentucky, an FFL holder can use a valid Ky. CCDW license in lieu of doing the (Form 4473) background check. The state does background checks every month on every ccdw licensee...so I can see this as a viable alternative to Obummer's most recent dictatorial edict, particularly if it is stricken down under the next president and instituted as an alternative.

If I'm not mistaken, Illinois has a FOID card.

What are your thoughts?
 
I have a Iowa CCW that I went through a back ground check to get.. I don't do a nics check when I buy a gun but I still have to fill out that blasted yellow form. So, my question is why do they need the yellow form other than keeping tabs on who has what guns? I don't like any of it and none of it keeps guns out of criminal hands. It's all political stupidity.

BTW, I left Illinois in 1996 over that stupid FOID card.:rolleyes:

Oregon used to do the same thing, but they stopped it 10 or more years ago...not enough revenue I would guess.
 
The 4473 never leaves the gun shops possession, nor is a copy sent to the Feds. It is merely a record of sale, occasionally the Feds send someone to review the documents, and they can spend a day or several days looking at your record keeping! Sometimes they identify problems and levy fines for improper record keeping. If the gun shop goes out of business the ffl holder has to store those records for a specific period of time!

A states concealed carry or open carry permit would require a NIC's waiver to include finger prints for the Feds/FBI.
Then you would have a "Cash & Carry" option(no NIC's call in)-AFTER the purchaser filled out the required BATFE 4473 across the counter firearm transfer form.

State cards/permits do not/will not TRUMP Federal Regulations....PERIOD.

FYI riverwolf1-
All 4473's are sent back to BATFE in VA when/if a FFL dealer closes shop.

Technically; I don't think so......and I don't get why some shooter's use the term 'weapon' when referring to any firearm. I think doing so plays into the hands of the anti gun yahoos. I don't consider my pickup, the shovel that I keep in it or any of my guns as 'weapons'; although I might use any of them as such, should the need arise. Continuously refer to baseball bats, sticks and rocks as 'weapons' and some dipstick will want to control and ban them.

Good example, hog. Now I'm going to go start my weapon so it can warm up before I drive it and haul a couple more weapons to work.
 
In TX as a concealed carry license holder we only have to fill out the form...no call and no wait. This is the main reason I have one.

Don't succomb to the PC bull...weapon, gun, firearm, tool...who really gives a S what we call it.

I agree totally with the spirit of this comment but in this world we live in words have meaning and people use them to communicate information to each other and I think we need to accept that reality.
 
Not to hijack this thread, but many of you are EXTREMELY fortunate that you are not under the wonderful rules and laws that many of us shooting enthusiasts have to put up with here in California. For what it's worth, I'm retired LE and have to fill out that background check form each and every time I/we purchase a "weapon" ie. rifle (no matter the caliber/rimfire), shotgun, handgun, or the kitchen sink. And what's even cuter, is you can no longer possess or purchase a 30 rd magazine in this wonderful state. To make things even more ridiculous, I was just (yesterday) turned down (by a site vendor listed above) to purchase 2/30 rd magazine (as a birthday present) for my son's AR/Kar 15. Now I charged the mags to my CC, but clearly listed the "Shipping Address" to his name and address in Arizona. Arizona has no legal restrictions (state or federal) to own, possess or buy AR magazines. BTW, he'll be 41 yrs old next month so they can't say it's an issue of an under-aged child getting possession of of the mags. I will add that after calling them to ask what they are thinking, they said they'd look into the matter. Seems to me this entire thing is getting way out of hand and this is not only a way to make money, but something more like paranoid liberals (Obama) having taken things a bit too far rather than address the REAL problem of mental health as no rules or laws are going to stop any of the horrific mass shootings or terrorists who want to do harm to our great nation or it's citizens.
