Your thoughts on this aftermarket action.

The fellow that bought Jerry Stiller out a few years ago is a great person to deal with. I have actions built by Jerry years ago and bought a Tac30 from the new company last year at the Shilen Swap Meet. All have been top notch in quality and function.
Jerry is producing the rim fire receivers only.

If it was the long action, I would be very tempted.

I don't see much point in a 1.55" short action receiver unless you are trying to make a 40lb Dasher or something.

Yep, I see a 6 Dasher in the future...to keep the 2 I already have company. 3 isn't a crowd.

Josh, To take advantage of the 300WSM you will need the long action to utilize good bullets and not have them pushed into the body of the brass.

Would it be a good action for a 300 WSM or is a long action better for that round?

I would look at the stiller predator line. My predator was nice. It was a short action in 300WSM. I was shooting factory ammo though. Can’t help you on length.

I Can’t get over the tac30 though. I sold it and told the buyer about it. I hope he got it figured out.

He probably lapped it in and it is smooth now.

I’m assuming the guide rail at the bottom right? I wouldn’t want to touch the bolt. I was looking into getting it nitrided but then a defiance came up for sale that was too good to pass up. So I sold it.

Good for you. It's all about that warm fuzzy feeling. You've never lapped a bolt to a receiver?

nope...don’t even pretend to know what I’m talking about with gunsmithing. I understand what you guys do conceptually but I could never do it. Your most valuable asset is your hands and I can’t translate what I thinking to my hands like you guys can. With my luck I would put too much lapping compound on it and just go to town and destroy the bolt.

Also, your guys stock making and bedding jobs are insane too. Probably some of my favorite threads.

Got a Tac 30 and an older drop port, not one complaint. Bought the Tac 30 when Jerry was in charge, not a better guy to deal with than I've found. His customer service is next to perfection. Plus they are made in Texas!

Most aftermarket receivers are made with a close fitting bolt to receiver. You can put a light lapping compound on the body of the bolt and "jack" it off a few hundred times. You can do it instead of reading a book when you are in the small room sitting down. Clean it up and put a little Hobo Oil on it. It will be slick as owl Schiff.
