Your first 30 shots from cold, clean bore....

I'm wondering if you note any patterns?

For background, I'm shooting 6 Dasher, 1" profile bbl and I'm in the 0.25" range with an occasional shot that opens to 0.40" Using a front bag and rear rest, not a benchrest 1- piece rest. I can see prolly 0.125" wobble in my hold thru my scope. Not the best, but 0.25's are good enuf for me. I'm old. :)

Questions:

At what point (what round # of your first 30) is your barrel properly fouled, so yer getting the groups you expect?

At what point does barrel heating become an issue in terms of it affecting groups?

At what point does bbl heating become an issue in terms of affecting sight picture (mirage off bbl) ?

If you use a bbl cooler, when and how often?

What other patters do you notice, or advice re: fouling, round count, sighter shots, etc

Thx.

If your noticing your groups take 30 rounds to tighten up then try bumping your load. Fouling increases velocity which can push you into or out of your node.

Usually first couple if shots are slow but if your gun is on a decent node you might not see an elevation change as significant as you would expect.

All the other questions can't be answered. It's going to depend on the individual barrel, how it was made, profile, calibre, ambient weather, how fast your shooting, powder used, how aggressively it has been cleaned.

Cleaning routine and acceptable accuracy are relative to the game your playing. I prefer to clean a little bit and often to balance the highs and lows of accuracy and velocity but for me I'd say best accuracy is coming after 5 rounds and under 50

1 fouler if no abrasive to clean used. 2 foulers if an abrasive such as Iosso used. I switched to this from what I see on the chrony. 30 shots required is not from cleaning , in fact to me you missed 2 cleaning cycles.

A. 3 foulers to foul and warm the bbl. I shoot moly coated bullets, so consider that.
B. Bbl. heat is determined by barrel thickness, caliber, powder type and charge weight. As a prone shooter, using a 30" Palma contour bbl. it's far to hot to touch after a 20 shot string over 15-20 min.
C. I use a mirage band to combat the barrel mirage.
D. Never used a bbl. cooler.

I hope this helps,

Lloyd
