Your Favorite Bore cleaners...

I never jag. I have 2 cleaning rods, one with cal brush and the other with a one sized smaller brush. I use a patch on the smaller brush to wet or dry after brushing. I use a nylon brush with Sweets for heavy copper removeal. In between chemicals I use naptha on a patch. Cigarette lighter fluid is perfect. No residue and drys. I use non chlorinated brake cleaner to clean brushes. Cleans and drys. I finish with a clr to leave in the barrel. A bench rester showed me the light...saved time and lots of $$$.

What always cracks me up is when someone is bragging about how well their bore cleaner works and I ask them, "so, what kind of borescope do you have???" Or "how long have you had your borescope???" and then I get the inevitable blank "what" look followed by crickets chirping.
"Ya' gotta brush this and ya gotta patch that with this product only...and then the bore is perfectly clean!!!"...and you know this by looking at it how exactly???? Holding it up to a light and looking thru the breech????
Go ahead and hate me because I own a $1000.00 borescope if you really feel you need to, that would be nothing new....but I have tried them all. Shooters Choice MC-7 for general use and JB Bore Cleaner if I am in a hurry. I am not locked onto either one and am no ones fanboy...but until something better comes along and proves itself...those are what work the best for me.

I use JB and hoppes maybe some ATF

I started shooting competitive in 1989 with a shilen barrell, I used a 50/50 mix of butches and kroil.
I would've bet the farm,my benchrest guns were clean, until I got a bore scope.
I then found m pro 7 products and really liked them, they work.
But since shooting this yrs 1000yard I.b.s. nationals I found bore tech products, the elimination for carbon and cu+2 for copper.
Imo this is the holy grail of cleaning .
Larry Willis bore scope doesn't lie.
Its CLEAN, EASY ON MY,BARTLEINS AND WORKS FAST. DONT THINK,I LL CHANGE .at least till they make something that does it for me. Lol
Hope this helps.

I recently started using a good carbon remover, (KG-1). Quickly removing the carbon and getting to the copper quicker really speeds up my cleaning time.

+1 on the KG-1 for carbon removal and then use KG-12 for removing copper. Bore scoping shows how well these two work.

Yes, bore scopes do confirm cleaning techniques and products that work. You can get your barrel clean without a bore scope but they do show what works best without wearing out your barrel in the cleaning process. Barrels can be ruined with over cleaning or poor cleaning techniques.
You'll also benefit from being able to watch the throat wear and pick up other issues too... just MHO

I use a variety of solvents, Kroil, BBS and others. But I have found Montana Extreme really does remove copper fast. Barlow

My vintage Vitalis is all used up......would Bryl Creem work as well? Just a little dab? :)
A little dab will do ya! However being a paste from a tube, don't use to much. It might leave to much build up in the rifling! Seriously now I like the Bore Tech.

I always preferred Wildroot because it had lanolin. Doubled as a case lube.
BBS is my gun cleaning juice.

They all suck, lol. Just pick one and do not be afraid of bronze brushes and Iosso.
I often wonder how many start out being strong and effective and then after getting a good sales base, cheapen up the formula by diluting it. The cynic in me says I'll bet there's more than one.

Along those same lines, I wonder how many people find a cleaner to be "better" even though it really is the individual barrel itself that is cleaning up easier.

I have a 30 barrel that cleans so darn easy I wonder why I bother. Makes no copper, Iosso patches look moderately grey, where is all the fouling? Other barrels of mine don't do that, they foul and clean like I would expect.
