You done messed up A A-ron!

Mine was mixing AA5 and AA9. One of those times I was glad I could only afford 1lb of powder at a time. All went into the garden. I was young enough I couldn't blame old age :)

Just recently I caught myself moving a second jug of powder when I already had one out. As soon as I saw the first one I thought, "don't do that cause you'll be sure to mess it up" and put the new jug back on the shelf.

They are so close together, if you want to salvage the powder
I would do as you said, dilute in into an 8lb jug
Then rework up a load using the faster powder data
The difference may be insignificant enough as
.... it's definitely not going to burn FASTER than the faster of the two powders.
(I wonder if this is what some Mfgr's called (DATA POWDER) :P
accidentally mixed 2 up and said oooops, lets remarket it as data powder
--------------------------------------------------------------------
You will then have to remember this powder may be different and treat it as a whole different powder
Meaning if you use 60.0 grns of H1000
You likely cannot simply use the same load with your "Mixed" powder

We’ve all done it at least once, and also forgot to twist close the bottom valve to empty the powder reservoir. :)

Belt & Suspenders - Like you, I leave the powder jug on the bench top while using it. When I fill the powder reservoir I also place a piece of blue painters tape on cap/top and write the powder. Now I can cross - verify… no more depending upon memory or potential issue when I accidentally put away the powder jug.

So I committed a cardinal sin and made a huge bone head mistake at my reloading table today. Recently I loaded two test ladders for my 6.5 PRC using H1000 and new to me N565 for some new ADG brass to test for velocity and pressure limits and to compare against the Norma brass I've been using. I keep an empty butter bowl at my table with the powder jug I'm using at the moment, my funnels and a few nick-nacks. Well I didn't empty my powder dispenser for a few days after loading and today I sat down to measure water volume on the handful of cartridges I had just shot and before I was to get started I decided to empty the dispenser back into the powder jug and clear some space for my work. For some unexplained reason I had placed it (H1000) on the floor right next to the nearly full jug of N565 I had used that same loading session. I had loaded only 11 rounds from the new N565 jug. I proceeded to dispense 300gr at a time into the dish to pour back into the jug and as soon as I poured the third dish into the jug I had a oh $#!T moment. I just poured 900gr of H1000 into a mostly full jug of N565. I usually attach a post it note on the dispenser of the powder that is in it, but either it fell off or I forgot this time. Rather than throw out the now mixed container of N565 is this uh-oh salvageable? Being that the two powders are distinctly different in appearance by color and kernel size I started the arduous task of sorting the powders literally kernels at a time. As of this writing I've sorted close to 500 grains of powder. Is this even worth the effort? Being they are of similar burn rates could I dilute the ratio by adding this to an 8# keg? By doing this I calculate the H1000 to make up just under 1% of the total mixture. I hate to throw out that much powder and figure if I just work on sorting the mixture a little at a time I would be able to reclaim nearly all of the H1000 and the miniscule amount that I miss would become inconsequential to the nearly full jug of N565. Thoughts, comments, suggestions?
According to the Hodgdon Smokeless Powder Burn Rate Chart for 2023 N565 is #153 and H1000 is #158.
Now, let's consider the REAL difference. PRESSURE curves are sometimes very different for powders of the same burn speed (although I am not a physicist nor Holiday Inn Express visitor), according to someone in that industry who knows. I had a buddy that inadvertently loaded H4350 into his V3 without clearing out the H4895 (very different burn speeds) and the results were, well, spectacular and not in a good way.
The best advice is to pour yourself two fingers of your favorite bourbon and ceremonially "fertilize" your lawn with the contaminated powder. Of course you could make a call to Hodgdon Tech Support and ask about the possibilities but expect to be treated as, well, never mind.

Did it once many yrs ago, forget what powders were, but they were vastly different enough in size to mostly sort out, and it was like 3-400gr of very large into small, may have even been into a ball powder, scooped out as much of the large as I could, scooped out some more and tossed it to get rid of the stuff not worth picking out. I put a pc of tape on the hopper now, if I leave it in overnite, as to what is in there. It was one of those very early recognition of the brainfart and kinda got away with it deals.
