Yep, I'm old and cranky.

You guys go first. Please tell us all, the gun you owned, hated and sold off quickly. This should be fun. Plus the young guys get saved from our Mistakes. Cool?? Mine was a way too BIG 12 bore bolt action shotgun for an eleven-year-old, 4 eyed, Fat kid. Mike in ct.

870 12g,rifled brrl slug gun. Guy owed me money is how it came here.

So,awhile passes and I hadn't even thought about until; My oldest son is talkin chit with his younger bros about how badass he was(we were all laughing).... listening I'm starting to think about the kick from this 870. "Stay right here",going to get it and some jacked up factory slugs should settle this.

I load it up throw a target out behind the shop where we were all sitting. He shoots a mag full and turns with this big chit eating grin and goes,"Dang, that's the coolest gun I've ever fired!!".

Gave it to him on the spot.

I really don't know what it was. I was a very young snot and it was my first time at the range. I had asked everybody there if I could shoot their rifle and some said yes and some said no.

About half way down the row of bench's this guy says sure with that big *hit eating grin on his face and hands me a loaded rifle and says hold on as tight as you can, I did and the next thing I know after pulling the trigger is that I was looking up at the sun from laying on my back.

I didn't feel the need to shoot anymore rifles that day because I couldn't feel my shoulder or anything else at that point. The guy who did it thought it was very funny until two guys took him out behind the range shack, he wasn't laughing when he came back to the line.
I blame that moment for hooking me for life on what we all call a sport.

12 years old, my parents let me buy a Win 670 .243. I had been shooting red fox with a 20 ga single shot and #4's. 25-30$ each. I was an outdoor magazine kid, ordered my fly rod kit from an ad when I was eight. The .243 because I was going to rifle hunt deer(I lived in a shotgun zone). I loaded shells with a Lee wack-a-mole set( dad hated it because I sat at my desk in the bedroom and loaded). I learned how to sew fur after buying the .243. Got tired of sewing fox after I turned 16, with drivers license shooting and trapping fox was time consuming in the winter. Sewing took time. Sold the .243 and bought a M700 in 17 rem. As I also was bow hunting deer, could only have one a year, no reason to travel and hunt with a rifle.
I had a Rem 870 30" VR 12ga. I cut 5" off with a band saw. Drilled and tapped for a glow bead. That was a great ruffed grouse gun, I regret selling that one.

Winchester model 70 7MM Mag with a boss tha my wife bought me for Christmas one year.
Recoil like nothing I've ever shot before, and on a deer hunt in PA. I was sighting it in with no hearing protection.
It's no wonder I only have 20% hearing in my left ear today.
Someone broke into our home and stole it with several other guns yet I wasn't quite as mad about losing that one.
The next year she bought me another one identical to it on my birthday , I thanked beer and promptly returned it to the gunshop and exchanged it for a Weatherby in 280 Rem that I absolutely love.

Rem 742 woodmaster in 30.06 bought used. Missed two big bucks both less than 200 yards and shooting off stable edge of window of deer stand. Prone on ground one time and scope cut my eye socket shooting at big doe - lost the doe and had cut black eye for days. It had to go but replaced it with a BAR in 270 - best money I’ve ever spent and Has killed many many deer. Since then got a bargain in another BAR grade 2 in 30.06 soft shooter and a deer slayer as well. Might lose a shoulder or two but loin and hams are left Next i remember was ruger #1 in 220 swift - did mod for front to help with accuracy and tried different bullets powders primers brass still wouldn’t group. Recrown and this rifle had very few rounds down it but never could get it to shoot - Had to go Next on list was ruger 77 tang in 243 heavy barrel - saw fella make 400 yard shot with it on a bird while shooting off sand bags on hood of his truck. He needed money in couple of weeks and i bought it. Great rifle and still have it.

Two of them, a Ruger #1 in 7mm mag and a Wichita single shot pistol in 357 super mag, although I sometimes wish I had the Wichita back as I should have shot 357mag in it instead

Besides being embarrassing, the list would be too long to post the one's I have owned.

However, I can't think of one that I owned that I "hated". I regret most of the ones that I traded and sold. However, there was one, it was a newly designed Remington 22 LR in the 90's that was supposed to be engineered for ultimate field accuracy. In appearance, it was a beautifully crafted rifle. However, it would not extract spent shells. I sent back two times, and they kept saying there was nothing wrong with it. I had a gunsmith try to get it to work - it wouldn't. I really like the design of the rifle, but I traded it because it was totally unreliable.

Once I got my first professional job and become more affluent, my problem was always searching the "perfect" rifle / pistol / caliber. This was an illusion fuel by reading too many gun magazine writers. What I learned, the expensive way, is that it's the person behind the firearm that is the most limiting factor. I also learned to beware of paper ballistics, armchair experts, and claims that exceed reality or the skills of most shooters.

Ithaca mag 10. What a cumbersome club. I know why I bought it and I know why I got rid of it. Bought a Remington SP 10, love it and still have it.
