Yamalube ring free for Bbl Carbon Removal?

It works well, soaked a ring on a bbl for 1.5 hrs. Lasso bore brush a few strokes and ring gone.. easy on the barrel too…
Use it every cleaning.
will it hurt the bluing if you get some on the outside of the barrel ?
what is your procedure for using it ?

No bluing on any of my bbls.

Bore guide, 3 to 4 wet patches soak, soak a losso blue and stroke 2 to 3 times. Get the carbon good and soaked. I always let it sit for an hour if I let a carbon ring start. After an hour run another wet patch. Short stroke the throat area several times.
Then I keep my dry losso brush clean after each pass for 10 or so strokes.
I run a Yamaha 250 on my Skeeter, have plenty of ring free.

Will add sometimes I will scrub the throat w/ out the bore guide in as it gets in the way of the ring.

Techron, Ring Free and similar have PEA ( polyetheramine) as the active ingredient... the same additive that many (all?) Tier 1 gas contains. It actually does remove carbon…

I have soaked pistons in ring free overnight in my vat and it really loosens up stubborn carbon.

What made we decide to try it on a shot out barrel..
Didn’t see any ill effects on the throat…

I have not used yamaha lube but I still have a partial can of GM Top cyl cleaner from the 70's left. It is flat out the best carbon cutter I have ever used. Way too many cancer agents in it but it works. When I was in the bass fishing circuit the Yamaha stuff was what everyone ran in their 2 strokes. When you ran it threw my Mercury you did not want to be standing behind the motor when doing it. You would be completly covered in black carbon mixed in 2 stroke oil.

Is what you have from the 1970s the #1050002 ?

Shock treatment for outboard engine is 16oz seafoam in 1 gal straight gas. Run off the one gallon jug for 20 minutes(idle), off for 20 minutes, run again until jug is empty. Then add free ring treatment to fuel tank. The shock treatment is supposed to soften carbon, reduce the chance of a hard carbon lump bouncing around in a cylinder.

I have my barrel soaking now and will post results later
I let it soak for 1 hour and seen a little removal of carbon. Then I let it soak for 3 1/2 hours and seen a little more carbon removed. I also run an Iosso brush 30 strokes. I can see where it removed quite a bit of carbon out of the barrel but the carbon ring is still there. Maybe I should soak it over night ?

Stubborn carbon ring are a PiA, Boretech eliminator is ran thru my bbls while warm at the range before I leave. I leave them semi wet, 30 minutes home.
A few passes with C4 on a patch at home, lube free soak 30 minutes via another wet patch. Scrub the throat several passes. I keep brushes clean as possible. Patch out with dry patches till clean.
My barrels stay clean, clean is good.

The lube free works better than anything else I’ve used on neglected bbls. Let it soak, it will come clean.

Do you have a bore scope, I’d like to see your carbon ring and throat area.

should I be able to get more of the carbon ring out ?

Yes. Run a wet patch into the throat, leave it there to soak overnight or longer. Then with a patch on a brush, short stroke the throat area using JB or Iosso paste and it will remove the ring. This might require 50 or 100 strokes, but it can be removed. If you don't have these pastes then a wet brush can work with many more strokes.

Bbl on or off action? Soak it as mentioned above overnight with a plug in the chamber end, put enough ring free in bbl to cover the 6” to 8” w/ muzzle up. Tilt muzzle down and drain ring free out after a good 12-18 hour soak, then go to work scrubbing with a Losso blue brush, Go one caliber size in up and work in short strokes 2” or so up to 6 or so inches. It’s work but it will come out.
Ring free has removed carbon ring in all my bbls with ease, but, again but never let my bbls get to the point of causing issues. I’ve never used JB or Losso but they do work, I’ve never wanted abrasives in my chambers.
Boretech Chameleon gel is a good less harsh scrub.
