"XXL Reloading Data" - When you've exhausted the web...

I usually do a deep dive for 'net free reloading data, but I've hit a wall.

This is for 6ARC (gas gun) using a Nosler 70 grain Ballistic Tip , N120 powder

Nosler doesn't even include the 6 ARC caliber. Neither does VV.

SO my question is....is the XXL Reloading data relaible?

I searched the forum and ppl said "get a manual" (neither manufacturer has the data I need) Or ask here. (seems presumptuous.)

Any helps? I'm pretty settled on the Nosler 70 BT's (widely accepted as the go-to) and N120 (got 4 lbs on hand)

Thx.

Have no idea how reliable XXL data might be. But I'd venture that N120 isn't the best powder for your application. QL shows it hitting max pressure behind your 70gr Nosler at around 25.3gr. That charge level is only going to give around 91% load density.

Some likely better candidates...

@Jager excellent! Thx.

I did pay the $19.95 subscription, and it game me Min - 22.7 gr and Max of 23.3 gr.

May pressure shows @ 45,803 and max velocity 2,861.

SInce semi auto, I'm looking for clean burning powder.

BTW.... this is for a 12.5" bbl.

Reading your data, its looks like Ramshot TAC might be a better choice.... @ 98.7% case fill, and 3,034 fps, but the 89.2 % propelland burnt seems concerning (first look @ QL....not sure I'm reading the data right)

Hodgdon web site has loads for the 6 ARC with 70g pills - whats the problem?
I already printed that out. They don't make the powders I want to use, clean burning stuff that's been recommended to me. That's one problem. :)

Also I see no indication if loads are for a gas gun or bolt gun.

Not sure how you're going to get 2860 fps with 23.3/N120 out of 12.5" barrel. QL shows that giving you around 2485. I'm guessing your subscription service is basing their load on a much longer barrel.

Regardless, you're leaving a bit on the table. That has implications beyond loss of velocity in a gas gun.

Here's an updated powder chart using your 12.5" barrel. As you can see, you can get close to full powder burn in a barrel of that length, but not entirely.

@Jager ... again sir, thank you.

Looking at Alliant Comp (which I already got a bunch of) I can get a slightly compressed load (101.4%) with 98.9% burn and almost 2800 fps.

This is a 300 yard "bug out" gun, for typically 125yd and under, varmints and such.

I assume by "DANGEROUS LOAD - DO NOT USE!" QL is saying to start well below that 29.7 gr and work up with the usual cautions.

Am I reading all this right?

You've been very helpsful, and its appreciated.

Yes, you're reading that right. I'd certainly give Alliant Comp a go over N120.

Do be mindful that that 29.7/Alliant Comp is a maximum load. So start lower and work up.

Don't worry about the "DANGEROUS LOAD" warning... QuickLoad tends to be overcautious in warning about pressure levels as they approach SAAMI max. Just remember that the model is at that max chamber pressure. And until you've dialed in QL with reliable chronograph data, it could be more than that or less than that.

XXL gets their loads from mfgrs and the Deva institute, which is the German proof house, think they also have stuff from the Italian proofhouse too, and American manuals. Deva used to publish reloading data manuals, understand they won't be doing it anymore. I found it very useful for my 30R Blaser, as it had the newer Deva data in it from 2017 or so, I only had a 2005 manual, I had a lot more powders to choose from. Sometimes it has exactly what you want, search by bullet and see if the cartridge you want shows up or not, click on it and see everything but the charge weights, that part you have to pay for, same as Peterson's Loaddata site. Lot more Euro stuff on XXL It is pretty new, and is still growing in the data it has on it. it's not for everyone, but, it is a good source.
