It looks like a beautiful piece of Quilted Maple.

I am relatively certain you are right Oso. I know it is one of the prettiest stocks I have. I have been very pleased with how it turned out and it is shooting good which is my favorite part.

Hal, it was already like that and I didn't completely strip the finish. The original finish did get sanded out completely in a few places so I used some walnut stain to get the figure to stand out. I still am not sure I shouldn't have completely removed all the finish and started from scratch but for now I am going to go with it as it is. I wasn't real thrilled with the areas that I used the walnut stain to try and bring the figure out. There is probably a better way. I was working on this one and a walnut centergrip at the same time and I honestly got to the point that I wanted them done, sending rounds down range.

Thanks, the expression on his face in that pic tells the story much better than I could ever express it in words. I know it is one of those times that will stay with me until I leave this world. I don't have a clue how many groundhogs I have killed in my life but the memorable ones have been the days like this one. Same thing with fishing, etc. My youngest girl is a blast fishing. Every time she catches one it is like publishers clearing house prize patrol showed up at the door. I just don't get to take them out enough!

So I just recently finished this XP up. It is a 221 fireball and I was using Remington factory ammo with the 50 grain bullet. I haven't shot any groundhogs in a long time. Seems like the coyotes have thinned them out a lot from what they used to be. The shot was a little over 100 yards so nothing really special there. What made this so special to me was I had my youngest child with me. He is almost 5 years old and he was a great hunting partner on his first groundhog hunt. When I shot and he saw it was down he was so excited. He wanted to carry it and had to show it to his papa, my dad. Sure made for an awesome Father's day! It doesn't take a wall hanger or big money to make great memories with the children. They can have fun catching a bluegill or shooting a whistle pig and so can we! I have always loved to hunt, fish and shoot but I declare I have had more fun watching my younguns over the years than any other succeses I have had in the outdoors.

Thanks for the comments guys. And yes they do eat well. Ate many of them growing up and to make sure my children learn the reality of life and the main purpose of hunting, said whistlepig is in the freezer waiting on a partner to join him.

Thanks for the positive comments. I don't think I am a great dad at all, I just try my best to teach them what is right and about our Creator. I fail a lot I guess. I believe in dusting their britches when they need it too. I have said several times that I am not in the business of raising heathens. It is no problem keeping him interested. If it were up to him we would be hunting or shooting or fishing every day...not a bad plan come to think of it.
