XP-100 HELP

Guys, I am new to this board, and JUST getting started in varmint pistols. I need a little help.

I recently aquired an XP100 stock (center grip) and trigger assy (including transfer rod, trigger and safety). Now, my question:

What Remington actions will work in this stock? I have been told 600, 7, and 700, but don't want to make an expensive mistake. My goal is a .223 1 in 8 with about an 11" barrel.

Any help would be appreciated.
Ben

The XP-100 was based on Remington's 40X short action. That's what I'd use if I were to build a varmint gun out of what you have.

Don't use anything but an XP100 action that's never been a rifle if you're going with a barrel under 16 inches! Dennis

Can't stress enough not to use ANYTHING else other that the original XP 100 action for anything under a 16" barrel unless you would like a free trip to the gray bar motel to think about it for a while. The law states that you can turn a pistol into a rifle but cannot go the other way without being a felon.

The XP 100 action is simply a 600 action that is registered at the manufacturer as a pistol from day one. It is shorter than any 700 short action or 40X and if you notice the rear receiver ring only has one scope mount hole instead of two due to the shorter length.

HI, welcome to the world of long range pistol with your XP-100. If you haven't found or visited SP (Specialty Pistol) http://specialtypistols.infopop.cc/eve/forums you'll find about anything you ever wanted to know about the XP100 and how to modify them.

Here is a link to a thread I just posted using a Rem-Age style barrel setup on one of my XP-100 pistols. (barrel nut system similar to the Savage system) http://www.savageshooters.com/showthread.php?23163-Rem-Age-style-barrel-on-my-XP-100 I haven't had time to me to really test it due to bad weather but the one quick sighting in and one group it shows real promise.

I've been shooting various versions of them since the late 70's and am presently shooting them at our 1000 yard steel plate matches. We're presently using them in rear grip stocks made by a friend (7fingers) made of billet aluminum. Adding any Remington 700 trigger eliminates the center grip trigger with the transfer bar. There are links on SP and also Savage forum with pictures and threads about the guns and stocks. I also have a thread here with the same stock but on a Savage LR pistol. http://forum.accurateshooter.com/index.php?topic=3809173.0

Good luck with your build, these little short guns will really amaze you and others how well they will shoot way out there.
