Remington XP 100 Stock

My brother was given a really nice Remington XP100 action. He is wanting to turn it into a sweet little bench rest rig chambered in 6mmBR. Where can I find a rifle stock for this? Will a 700 stock fit with a little inletting for the bolt handle? Any help would be appreciated.

The 700 stock is a long way off - the rifle "version" was the Model 600. IMHO, sell the pistol and purchase a decent, suitable action. Proper action stocks, triggers and scope rails available. I may be wrong - but isn't the tenon thread a bit on the short side on the 600 action?, which was a forerunner to the Model 7. If budget is the issue, theres plenty of information around on building "budget" accurate rifles - ie, start with a Savage action (see the article on the news page about the English girl).

Budget is not the issue. Action was given to him by a good friend and he's wanting to put it to use rather than just sit around and collect dust.

about once every two years a benchrest stock does turn up for them you must prowl the benchrest sites to find one.

my son built one up with a Krieger barrel and even in 221 it will kill p dogs at 300. it is an awesome hand gun. I find it very hard to shoot but he don't have any problems at all.
I got the stock from my benchrest gunsmith.

Using a sa 700 stock is very doable. The rear action screw of the xp is where the front trigger guard screw is on a 700. The xp hole will need to be drilled and tapped but easy enough. I float the trigger and tang like a Savage, due to the rear screw being in front of the trigger. IMO, they are the best option Remington ever made for a br build on short br cases. Short, stiff, single shot, solid bottom, etc. A 700 trigger fits it as well. The rear scope base only has one screw hole but a 700 base can be shortened and it fits, or Brunos carries a one piece xp scope base for kelbly style rings. I have one and it is a competitive gun in sr UBR modified class.
If he decides to go a different route, I have a very good xp pistol stock and most if not all of the parts to put it together as a pistol.--Mike

I had better luck asking on different forums for a rifle stock for an XP. Even then it took me a while.
I had passed up on good rifle stocks for these in years past for cheap.

After talking to a few that had done this I decided to hold out for a stock made for an XP, or already done. Found a nice McMillan.

I should've also mentioned that if you buy a used 700 stock that was previously screwed in, the front screw won't quite line up. So, depending on how it was done, you may need to use a pillar with a head large enough to cover the old hole and or pillar. Simple enough though. I put pillars at the front trigger guard screw location and at the front action screw hole in mine. It worked very well. As I mentioned before, I floated the action behind the rear pillar since there is no screw in the xp behind the trigger.

If you're starting with a new 700 sa stock, most only have a locator hole started at the rear, which won't be used but gets covered by the tang of the xp.

Oh, and I'd have Dan Armstrong put a new handle on it and re time the primary extraction.

Any br stock will fit- even if it had a stolle polar in it. You pretty much got to do the same work to any of them then send it to bc’z to get painted. Glued in, no recoil lug and the front trigger guard screw into the action is pretty much the way folks always did those for br shooting

I opted to pillar bed this one but I typically am a big believer in glued and screwed. The bedding turned out functionally very good but some did pull out when I pulled the action out of the bedding. Not very pretty but it works fine.
It's a dedicated UBR Modified gun and it shoots very well. Only shot a couple of matches with it so far but it's a competitive rifle. Wins will come! Lol!
I think it's an ideal rifle for that class, where it's gotta be a factory action of some sort. You can do anything you want to it..just gotta be a factory actioned rifle...13.5lbs or less, 3" or less forearm and 30 cal or smaller. Pretty simple to conform to the rules for this class. There's a few really good shooting modifieds touring the UBR ranks right now.
