XP 100 Conversion

Has anyone converted a XP 100 Center grip action to a 600 Mohawk Rifle configuration?

I saw they sold the triggers and floor plates at Brownells. Boyds sells several stocks.

Thinking 20"ish barrel .750+ muzzle. Would stay with the 7 BR or possibly change the bolt stop and go to 7-08

Thoughts also on a Remage style barrel vs Fitted.

I haven't shot IHMSA for a long time. I would think they are really really hard to come by in original condition. Had four back then. Always wished I kept one.

Don't. Do. It.

1986 Varminter with less than 200 rds through it. ;)

AR Pistols got nothing on XP-100's.

I turned one into a rifle, not a Mohawk. I didn’t get carried away so it could not be put back to a pistol. This one was far from being a collector.

I wouldn’t even think twice about doing another one. Though I will say don’t think your going to save anything because you already had the action.

Why?

I fail to see the point of using a single shot action from a target pistol which is in high demand for a magazine rifle which is essentially a copy of a rifle which exists already for sale.

Unless you're just looking for a project to cobble up for some reason?

Model 7 is the same basic action if you want a repeater. If wanting to stay with a single shot, look for a XR-100 which is a single shot version of the model 7. Both are easier to stock than putting an older XP-100 single shot in a rifle stock -- the older pistol version has odd locations for the action screws (not much meat around the front screw either) and a different tang than either the Model 600 or Model 7/XR-100.

I had one redone. It aint cost effective. I changed the bolt, put a jewell trigger on it, put it in a single shot eliseo chassis. A single shit rifle is easy to have made out of one, dont need a floor plate, just trigger. They used to be used for BR rifles.

In the end, id just sell it and but what you want. Aint worth truing up, new bolt, fixing it up and all..

Bug, if ya want a neat little action rifle, repeater, have a look at a Howa Mini. Go to their heavy barrel and don’t look back. The pencil barrel on my 223 will vertical string when it gets hot. Shoots great and would do well for a walking rig though.

An XP has no magical powers, I have “enough” of them. They can shoot very well. Prices I see today are less than what they were some years back.

You can buy an undesignated custom action to build a single shot pistol that will still fit the XP foot print for stocks. I have seen a couple of 700 actions used for pistol, long and short.

Never to a 600 Mowhawk rifle but did convert my XP 100 chambered in .221 Fireball into a rifle. One of the most accurate rifles I've ever had.:cool::cool:
The reason?? Shoulder issues with the "stretch" when trying to sight a LER scope. Felt like someone hit me with a baseball bat.:eek:
Shipped the action off to Shilen and had them rebarrel it with a 22" blued straight pipe. :D LOVE THAT RIFLE!!
Found out that my "20 TCM" Wildcat" round will chamber as smooth as silk just be dropping it in the action opening and closing the bolt. Slides right into the chamber with no issues as if it was custom made for it. :D:D
Action screws? No problem. Just make a threaded internal and external insert and install them where you want them. Rifle Basix trigger with a safety. Works like a dream.;)

Going to try to sort out the trigger issues and go from there. I believe I have a smith that can sort it out
