x-mark pro ?

i have a new rem. 700 sps with the x-mark pro trigger in it. It was to have a 3 1/2 lb trigger pull from the factory, but was 4 lb 10 oz. i only dry fired it 5-6 times then backed off the screw in the trigger like the ins. said to do , to lighten the pull. i did 1/3 turn with no difference. then another 1/3 turn and had 4 lb but had twice the bolt relieced the firing pin as i closed the bolt. like it does if you hold the trigger and close the bolt, not close bolt and click. i backed off another 1/3 turn and had 3lb 10 oz to 4 lb 4 oz. it moved back and forth. 1-2 more times of piring pin droping. i tighten it back 2/3 turn and have 4lb 6 oz +- . the firing pin still droped again. i shot 4 rds to get the scope sighted in at a 100yrds. i would put the safety on to chamber a round then set it to fire. when i opened the bolt i would put he safety back on. this way i was safe. i cleaned the barrel and today i shot 4 more rds. i am doing this to break in the barrel. i also have dry fired it 10-15 times with out any problums. what is up with this thing. i ordered a spring for the ft. screw that is spose to lighten the pull. or i could get a timmy trigger. the gun is for hunting and 4 lbs is fine for that. i will shoot most of the rds at paper . any help ??

There are lighter springs sold on ebay, Midway, and others - that will allow you to lower the pull.

i do have a lighter spring comming for the ft screw. has any one else worked with one of these triggers?

The X-Mark Pro is just another genuine POS ment to satisfy the lawyers. It will never equal a Shilen, Timney, and certainly not a Jewell.

Well, sure - but I don't recall anyone saying it would.

But he already owns it, and he's not looking for 2 ounces - and if he can make it work for the price of a small spring, what is the problem that you need to put it down?

Everything doesn't have to be perfect.

I mean, it's a friggin' 700 SPS, for Christ sake, not a $4,000 benchrest rifle!!

I have Dell Taylor custom made triggers in 3 of my xp100 pistols set at 3 oz. I won IHMSA world champmship big bore scope catagory in July, with out a spotter. I am familar with light triggers. I am looking to get this trigger to around 2 1/2 -- 3 lb. I ordered the spring from erniethegunsmith.com i think it was aroung $7.00 . If it does not wour good i will get a Timmy . CatShooter i did not take it that he was putting down, just stating a fact that i have read from several people. This is a hunting gun that my grand son will also be using and i do not want it unsafe for him. I want it light enugh to enjoy punching holes in paper. thanks Charles

I put the after market spring in the ft screw and wound up with a 1lb 12 oz trigger. i taped the gun all over with a plastic hammer, slamed the bolt closed and it did not fire. i will only leave it this way while working up a good load and then i will tighten it up to about 2 1/2 - 3 lbs for hunting. The lighter spring realy works. thanks Charles

I just caught this topic and was going to suggest a spring replacement as you did. I did one on mine and like yours my lowest setting ended up being a little over a pound, not bad for a hunting rifle. Be safe and have fun!!!
