Wyoming F-class competitions

No official dates have come out yet. Historically the state mid-range is the third Saturday in June at Casper at the Platte River Rod & Gun Club. The long range state match has been in Worland the last couple of years hosted by Nick with the Bridger Trail Light Infantry Rangers...however this year Rawlins Outdoor Shooting Complex asked for the match (two day match (July/August??). They are building a 1k range with Silver Mountain Targets??? We should hear more in a couple of months.

Here is the match bulletin for 1,000 yard, Long Range Wyoming State Championship in Rawlins this July.
We need more F-tr shooters to participate this year.
Will have the new Silver Mountain electronic target system.
Why is the Championship trophy limited to just residents??

That is the fly in the ointment my friend.
I have been told, it was a poor choice of words by the Wyo shooting association at their last meeting.
They are adding a new trophy this year, for Wyo top resident, in addition to two other match trophies the State Association already had (one for sling and one for F-class, both Open and F-tr are represented).
I am hopeful that the exclusive wording is just an oversight.
They are very excited to unveil the new 1,000 yard range in Rawlins, and I am sure some of the details have just been overlooked.

Maybe someone from the Wyoming association will chime in here to clarify?

Thats not all that uncommon... that to be a state champion, you have to be a resident. Others require you to be a member of the state association, but don't require residency. Other places are more of a free-for-all.

From experience I can tell you that ND, MN WI and NE all require residency to be called State Champion. NE has a seperate Overall category that can also be populated by residents, AND they have awesome trophies....

It's a reversal from what has been done the last ten years, based on match directors whims, not state associations. Wyoming has reciprocity agreements with other states.

I find the same wording when attending the Idaho Regional Long Range Championships at Rexburg every year. This year they are also hosting the Idaho State Mid Range Championships...

Are there provisions for onsite camping of self contained trailers?

Archer, call the complex or look them up on the net. I haven't been to the range in some years but they did not have camping available. That could have changed by now.

Nothing about camping on their web site (in fact there is no mention of this match on there web page or their Facebook page), and it isn't even posted on the Wyoming Shooters Association site. If they really wish to have any showing at all, they need to address these type of questions. Most big matches of this sort at least lists some sort of local accommodations. The number of people that could possibly show up to a State Match could inundate the local town facilities.

Read the match program and there is a phone number and email of the match director. He should be able to answer your questions.

Rawlins update:

Wayne Forshee of Silver Mountain helped with the install and initial set up of the target system this week.
Saturday, Dave hosted a live fire test of the system, getting everything ready for July 29-30 State Long Range match. The system worked well, with only a few hardware issues to resolve. It was my first time at the Rawlins rifle range. Dave has worked hard to get everything ready. This should be a great match.

Prize table update, partial list: PT&G reamer certificate, Whidden dies certificate, Magpul AR-15 magazines,
Phoenix Precision bi-pod. Many other donations. Thanks to all that have and will donate.

Get your entries in early
We really need more F-tr shooters participating this year.
