Well, I was at my shooting range this morning testing some loads in my 6.5 Creedmoor built by my good friend, Butch Lambert.
A stock tank is nearby so before heading back to the house I decided to drive over and take a look to see what might be taking a respite along the muddy bank. In gazing across the placid surface of water I cast a glance slightly below me and along a grassy embankment and spotted a large bull frog enjoying a ray of light filtering through the mesquites.
Easing out of my pickup and opening the backseat door, I grabbed an old Canon 400mm f5.6 with a Canon 5D MK III attached and eased up behind a big mesquite for some shots. I really like bull frogs because of those big, captivating eyes. Hearing them belching their bellicose song in summer reminds me of my boyhood days when my brother and I floated a leaky wooden boat around our big stock tank while using willow limbs as paddles and watching the bustling life that exists around a watery ecosystem in summertime.
After grabbing a few shots I detected a big eye peering through overhanging grass only a few feet away from my primary subject. So creeping almost to the waters edge, I grabbed more shots of that frog before both belched their displeasure at my presence and dove beneath the mirror surface of water.
It was a fine morning and I am pleased!
Wishing all a productive and safe week ahead!
