WSSM rifles

Never had 1 or ever shot 1. I see them for sale here and their and was curious as to how well those things feed from a rifle. They look like a BR case on steroids and look like they would be a bear to feed. Are they very accurrate? I am sure they are barrel burners for sure. Who out their has had 1 they can comment on or has 1 now that they are using to varmint hunt with..............DAN

I have never had one, but from the git go that super- short cartridge design had issues. There might be a very, very few that had favorable results from them, but the general concensus is that they are an abomination and I would steer well away from them. It was one of Winchesters biggest engineering blunders IMHO.
I see that Winchester and Browning no longer offer the WSSM chamberings, in-stock ammo supply is spotty, along with brass cases. If I remember correctly, there was a law suit by gun writer Rick Jamison who won a patent infringement issue against Winchester/ Browning over the WSSM case design.

I have 5. A Browning varmint in 25 WSSM, A Winchester Coyote in 25 WSSM, and Olympic upper AR15 25 WSSM,
a DTECH upper 25 WSSM, and a DTECH upper 243 WSSM, with the right load all shoot well ( 1/2" to 1" MOA) no function or feed problem from any of them.

A friend has a Browning .223WSSM dedicated coyote gun...Never heard any complaints....

Sorry no personal experience to relay....

Do you see any difference in the performance between the Olympic and the DTEC, I have been considering one of them in the 25WSSM.

I bought a Win 70 on 223 WSSM because Win had closed the doors & they were selling them cheap. My idea was to use it for a donor action for a lightweight 300 WSM thinking that they wouldn't make a dedicated WSSM action, only put a magazine block in. So much for "thinking", as it's a dedicated action. What I ended up with it without a doubt the most accuarate factory rifle that I have ever owned. 39 grs of Varget with a 55 gr Nosler BT fired by a CCI 200 primer with shoot sub-inch groups at 300 yds in a 6 1/2# rifle including the scope. Unbelieveable. I have never had a feeding issue but they are very touchy as to the accuracy window but once you find it. WOW. My customs shoot this well or better but we're talking factory barrel, skinny & 20" long.

I have a friend in Kentucky who wore the 22WSSM out in 125 rds of factory ammo. The larger you go with the WSSM/ WSM the better you get, the less throat wear you see and other issues. I beleive there was a big article in PS Mag about it. Adam

The DTECH's are more accurate. Function is the same for both.
