I have a browning 223 wssm I would like to rebarrel . I am set up to turn necks have 300 peices of brass and experience . Any advice on makeing this gun shoot , reamer advice tight neck or no turn . I want to shoot heavy bullets

Best advice is to NOT turn your necks down too much. The WSSM necks NEED to be thick to shoot properly. Nothing under 15 thou. I have no experience with heavies but the one that I had was lights out with 55gr BT's & Varget. Super accurate for a factory rifle. These are thick cases made to take 60k++ so the necks need to be thick as well. Just kiss them to make them uniform.

The other thing that I learned about the WSSM's is that the loading window is VERY narrow. You probably won't have 2 grains of powder between not enough to too much. I was however VERY easy to hit 3800 fps out of a 20" barrel with 55gr BT's. I don't remember what twist it was but it was a factory Winchester barrel. It looked like a drain pipe from reamer tracks but shot lights out. I was amazed, figured it would get rebarreled but I sold it for a walking coyote rifle.

What Larryh128 suggests I found to be true in a 6.5WSSM I acquired a few years ago, literally lock stock and barrel. The stock was what motivated me towards getting involved with the deal, the rest was seasoning....

Uses 25WSSM brass necked up just a bit, seemed to benefit from 'uniforming' neck thickness from the 0.016" - 0.018" I was seeing on raw brass to the 0.015" he suggests. This chamber's neck is generous by my standards so taking off more is unwarranted without having another, tighter neck to screw onto the action.

Loads seem to need to be near the upper ranges to shoot well and the accuracy window's smaller than with my 6XC or Palma rifles but it's fun to shoot anyway, just need to do the prep work first.

Spot on. They have a big boiler room and need support all around.Biggest tip is to anneal all your brass including new brass before loading.This brass can harden super quick because of the operating pressures.
