I have a new win. coyote in 25 wssm. I'm thinking of making a 243 wssm with a hart 1-7 twist barrel with a barrel block and a 262 neck, a jewel trigger. I don't know what kind of stock I want to use. I'm not partial to fiberglass or wood it wouldn't matter. In the end I want it to weigh in the 40-50# range. I'd like to shoot 1k and long range ground hogs. Any & all opions would be appreciated.

jghoghunter,
I built a .243WSSM Rouge improved with a 272 tight neck. I would not recommend going to the .262 the necks on the WSSM are very thick and even at .272 your taking a fair bit off. If my memory serves me right you are still taking about .005 off. I also built mine with a 1 in 7 twist Broughton 5C barrel and I have only shot the 115 D-TACs' with incredible results. it holds 1/3 MOA to 600yds on a regualr basis and have shot a 1/3MOA group at 1,000 yds. all off the bi-pod. I don't know that I would recommend a rifle of that weight, 16# - 25# would be very managable...but each to his own.

I think the barrel block idea is a good one, especially with the WIN. action and the weight you are talking about,If you are interested I Manufacture barrel blocks...Check out my website www.straightshotgunsmithing.com there are also many other great barrel block manufacturers.

If you do all the brass prep, this cartridge is incredible!
here is a link to a write up I did on this chambering here on 6br.com.
