Wrapped Around the Axle on a New Target Scope--?

Visualizing 6mm bullet holes in splatter targets at 300 yd is easy and can be done even with moderately priced rifle scopes. Visualizing 6mm holes in target black [paper] is a whole different animal, even with a decent spotting scope, let alone with a rifle scope. You may well need some help from the sun to ever hope to do this reliably (i.e. a backlit target), no matter what rifle scope you choose. Nonetheless, I'd love to hear the results if you find one that can do the job. My guess is that high quality glass might be your friend more than just high magnification. If the mirage is running even moderately, turning the mag up past 30-35X or so can often make visualization of the target much worse.

Athlon just started making the Argos in 10-40x56. Nice thin reticles. I have the 6-30x56 and the glass is razor sharp all the way to 30X. Although I havent tested the 10-40, I would imagine the higher mag offerings would give the same optical performance. Also an unconditional no fault lifetime warranty.

For a little higher magnification and top level quality, I really like my Delta Stryker HD 5-50x56. Awesome reticle selection, great Japanese glass, and rock solid mechanics. Can be found on Optics-trade.eu (in Slovenia) for $1609 plus $35 for 3-Day UPS shipping. But I don't think they have the 1/8 MOA model in stock right now. Be best to email them before buying if something isn't in stock there.
