Let the barrel tell you if it is any good. The only way to know is to shoot it.
Would you be kind enough to post a link to it. I’m having trouble finding it. Thank you
I think your going to be very dissatisfied spending 400 bucks on a good barrel, and trying to get anywhere near satisfying groups better than any factory Savage Barrel using the stock on a Axis!Evan I totally was thinking that to. I was looking at barrels on urbanriflemans site last night. Had a savage 17wsm that was horrendous no matter the ammo. Savage was great and replaced the rifle and one they sent was night and day difference.
Luckily range is only 20 min away and been going once a week. Need the time getting back in groove of things. Would like to run a suppressor on this but to get barrel threaded I might as well just order a barrel
It is going to take more than torque specks in his case, this going to be very meaningless with those modular Tupperware stocks on the Axis,,, the better laminated stocks on the 110, 112, 12, etc is where this is going to show improvements.
Actually, with the pillars in the plastic stocked Savages, it's very effective! It is going to take more than torque specks in his case, this going to be very meaningless with those modular Tupperware stocks on the Axis,,, the better laminated stocks on the 110, 112, 12, etc is where this is going to show improvements.
In mine it was of little use, the biggest help is in the three screw stocks, I can torque both the long and short action Axis stock,, and see no difference once they are already tight, tighter makes no difference in mine! Being all Axis are the same action, and only the stock determines long or short mag use.Actually, with the pillars in the plastic stocked Savages, it's very effective!
It even helps out the Axis rifles.
Trust me, those would not be 2 and 1 bullet holes with a Stock improvement, but would result in one hole in every one of those targets, under 1/4". Just like my factory barrel did in my Axis putting it in a descent stock, not even carbon or glass, just an inexpensive stiffer stock. These are from my LH Savage 260 in a factory plastic stock, Shilen Select Match, 1-9. The same set up in a 22-250 shoots as well.

+1Buy a box of Tubb TMS bullets. Shoot 8 at 2000 fps.
Looks like a very typical Savage bbl. They look like hell but they shoot just fine, normally. So I too my savage axis 22-250 to the range today and last weekend for load developement. I am not great of a shot but man this rifle is all over the place. Best group was about an inch or just over.
I got home to clean it and decided to stick the borescope I had picked up in the barrel for closer look. You can see almost like chatter marks along the entire barrel

Has anyone seen this before or recommendation? I bought this rifle on a spurt of the moment and 500 pieces of brass where I could find it and hope I can get it to shoot for varmint hunting
