Would a 10 twist 6br stablize 100 grain bullets?

Would a 10 twist 6br stablize 100 grain bullets? Maybe like a non boat tail Hornady? If not what is the heaviest bullet you would recommend? This is in an XP-100. Thanks is advance for your help!

I would go to this site and plug in numbers. http://www.jbmballistics.com/cgi-bin/jbmstab-5.1.cgi
As you can see, it depends on velocity and bullet length. So one 85 grain bullet might work while another would not.

The answer is in the maths... your need a tip that gives you a GS factor of around 1.4.

MV, bullet weight and bullet length all have a bearing on reaching this factor. Since you are looking for a bullet that is around 100g, then length is you issue i.e. short the better.

Below I have listed some tips that should work and the last figure, in brackets, is the length of the bullet.

Berger 90g BT (1.030!)
Nosler 95g Partition (1.029")
Hornady 100g BTSP (1.083")
Lapua 90g FMJBT (0.957")

Hope that helps

QuickLoad provides bullet lengths. I think you can also get them from the bullet mfg websites.
BTW, I'm selling my Competitor Corp 22-250. 9 twist 18" barrel. I've hit a one foot square steel plate at 700 yards and killed groundhogs at 400 yards with it. 64 Bergers. Just in case you might be interested. Here's a pic.

Wayne, is that a Competitor you are speaking of?

NHgunNut, it was made in NH, but I can't remember which town/city. Their website would tell you.

You may want to contact the bullet manufacturer they are always willing to help with that sort of question. Good Luck Lou

Nomad47,
No sir, it is a switch barrel Witchita built by Fred Sinclair, I bough it from a old gent that had Macular degeneration, one barrel is a 22br the other was a 20" .243 Win. I had re chambered to 6br then to 6brx, I chambered it in 6brx as a fireform barrel, it didn't work well for that but it shoots 65 grain v-max and 68 grain Berger's so well after my competition rifle fireforms them I use it for short to mid range varmints and if I want to go out to 600 or so the 100 grain SGK's shoot great also. What is this competitor your speaking of? it sure is a neat looking outfit I would love to have something like that. Do you actually shoot it with the wedge under the grip?
Wayne.

Wayne, it is made by Competitor Corp in New Hampshire. http://www.competitor-pistol.com/ It is a rotary cannon action. Overall length is 20.25" including muzzle brake and the barrel is 18". It is a lot of fun to shoot. Yes, I shoot it with the wedge under the grip to adjust elevation of the shot. Recoil is mild with the muzzle rising about an inch when shot. I enjoy shooting it but need to sell it so I can fund a scope upgrade. I'm asking $800 for the gun, scope base and holster. Add $225 to have Weaver 6.5-20 scope with Burris Signature rings included.
BTW, there are 5 pages of calibers (barrels) available from Competitor for $195 each.

Here is a video of a XP-100 chambered in 260 Remington shooting steel at 630 yards and beyond. And using the wedge under the grip.

Nomad,
Thanks for sharing the video was great. I wish I could buy your pistol, I am pouring all my extra cash into a couple builds for my son and I.
Wayne.
