243 load info needed

Hey, I'm new to 6mm shooting. I have a factory Savage model 12 in 243 and looking for load info for the Berger 90 grain boat tail match bullet with Hodgdon's H1000 powder. I can't find H1000 listed anywhere for this bullet weight. Also would the 1-9.25 twist in this barrel stabilize heavier boat tail of VLD bullets? Joe H any info on this? Hodgdon lists a compressed load of 47.0gr H1000 for a 100 gr Speer BTSP, 3000 fps at 49,800 CUP, 2.630 OAL.

I don't like extrapolating from one bullet/load length to another, but it looks like you could start at 45.0 grains and work up from there. You twist rate should work with the Berger 90gr.

It looks like you may run out of room in the case before you pressure out with H1000. But I always recommend starting low.

QuickLOAD predicts that, using 47.0 gr of H1000, with a COAL of 2.70" with the Berger 90 gr BT, and the bullets seated in the lands, you would be at 45,337 psi pressure--well in the "safe" zone. With the bullets jumped, pressure drops to 43,247 psi predicted.

In my Savage 12FV I shoot 95gr bergers over 42.5gr of H4831sc in norma brass lit by a fed 210M primers with the bullet in the lands and it shoots extreemly well. So well that I will not post my group sizes because it will just attract comments from doubters. I was going to shoot the 90gr Bergers but the BC of the 95 is alot higher do to the shape of the bullet.

h-1000 is very slow. I suggest that you try the H4831 or IMR or H 4350. I get fantastic results with 42.3g of H4350, Win primer in a Rem case.

It's been a while since I loaded for my 243 but my notes show 4350 was my powder of choice, I tried 3031, 4064, 4831, N204, WW760, SR4759 for reduced slow loads, but 42.5g of IMR 4350 with 80g bullets grouped best in my rifle. That was long ago, before the great new bullets available today :,

I'm shooting a Stevens 200 with a factory 26" varmint barrel, same twist as yours and I'm getting excellent accuracy with 46.1 gr. of H-1000 in Winchester brass, F210M primers. The last loads I chronyed were around 3225 FPS.

The H-1000 is a suberb powder and easier on the barrel than faster burning powders.
