Work Bench under $400?

Hmm, all the big local stores want around $400 for a "regular" wooden top work bench.
Anyone know any good deals? Specifically for mounting an RCBS RC Supreme.

I used a 30x80 solid core door slab. I think it was around $75-80 before all the crazy price increases. It's heavy!

Built a frame out of scrap lumber then went to HD and bought the cheapest 6' counter top they had. Trimmed it to fit. I have a Rock Chucker bolted to mine.

Do it yourself model. took the wheels off of it.

If available in your area, try Habitat for Humanity or Salvation Army for a solid core door.
You are so very correct. They make excellent bench tops. I have 3 in use.

Big fan of these if the dimensions work for you.
Also available with center legs, which I do not care for.

Home depot has been carrying butcherblock slabs for 100 bucks. That's a great top. Make your own bottom.

Or, two thicknesses of 3/4 MDF for the top. Coat it in poly. Heavy and solid work surface

Find a used metal desk. I can run my Chargemaster and seat bullets while it's running with no effect to the powder charge.

Here’s what I just did earlier this after using one of those Harbor Freight workbenches for years. You can usually find some version of these for under $400 at hardware stores or Craigslist and I’m loving it.

I got my reloading bench at Harbor freight it was fairly cheap and serves my purpose is just fine

I like most of these ideas. Check craigslist, check Habitat or whoever else has used stuff, even check in the thrift stores as they sometimes have stuff.

Also at Habitat, otherwise the scrap bin at Home Depot etc: kitchen counters. My now 20 year old bolted-to-wall workbench is a scrap of kitchen counter with backsplash. Mounted to wall brackets, a bit of other 2x4 frame, a few 4x4s straight down, and then things like the vise are straight above a post, so it's strong enough to pound on, the melamine cleans up great.

Current material prices make the $400 sound pretty good. If you can get the material reasonable you can "build back better"..
