Woohoo! I’m finally going back to work!

What type of surgery? My wife is going in for a torn rotator cuff, everyone she talks to says it is very painful. Just wondering what she is in for.

My rotator cuff severed and had to have surgery to grind the bone back and reattach the cuff. The surgery is nothing. The recovery isn't too bad but it takes a long time to get fully back and as said make sure she takes her meds.
As for the PT, I highly recommend that she maintain the simple movement exercises that she is give at first for at least a year, depending on how severe her issue is. This will keep everything moving freely and makes doing the more strenuous exercises easier to do.

I had rotator cuff surgery and it was the worse surgery I ever had had to sleep in a recliner 3 mo. Its been over a year now and shoulder still hurts some people have good luck but I shure didnt

For me it was a SLAP tear. Torn tissue between the ball and socket. This was my first surgery. It was an outpatient procedure, with a one hour time slot allotted. I woke up two and a half hours after it, feeling like Mike Tyson had beaten the s*%t out of me. I had a bruise the size of a grown man’s hand on my left pec that lasted about three weeks. I have a friend who had rotator cuff surgery. She and I both got a nerve block; a powerful local anesthetic. Your wife will get powerful prescription pain medication. Do not let her forget to take them on schedule. If you want, I can ask my friend what to expect with rotator cuff surgery.
what you can expect from shoulder surgery is to have it done 2-3 more times

I think the people that say they are back to normal exaggerate their success and many have said they had to have it done 2 or more times

I was surprised when I was being evaluated for surgery, that they asked me several times if I smoked. I asked them what diff that made and the answer was "A LOT!"

It seems that smokers just don't heal as well for various reasons. I don't smoke and I healed very well. I'll go down as one of the guys who is very happy with the out-come. Sugery was done orthoscopically through seven entry points, and the reattachments have all held up. I made the PT a serious thing in my life for a few months, and went back to work doing seriously heavy lifting every day. Been about five years now. jd

So far no surgery recommendations for my left shoulder. A couple dislocations in college baseball and now the occasional "pop" or "catch" and can't hold or draw bow for 1-2 days. Forget about a pushup or even some yoga positions(wife is yoga crazy). Haven't went on a out of state bow hunt for 5 years(rifle yes), because never sure when shoulder will seize, then no shooting.
