Woodleigh 160gr .264 bullets. Anyone ever load them in a 6.5x47L?

Looking for any info on these bullets and some loads that were used. I shoot silhouette so I am not looking to drive these very fast. Looking for something in the 2600-2700 fps range. Trying to find a heavier bullet than the 142 SMK and the 139 Scenars to use on the Rams. The Woodleighs have a slightly lower BC but the extra energy down range would be an acceptable trade off.

So anyone try these before in any 6.5 or .260 before and what did you think? Any load data on the 6.5x47L case using them?

In the 6.5x47 LAPUA, I would concentrate on the lighter weight bullets.

Those are some PRICEY silhouette bullets. Have you looked into 155 Sierra's ?

Yes they are pricey but you only shoot 25% of the ammo on Rams so it would be exclusively for them. I haven't tried the 155 Sierra's I didn't even notice them I thought their biggest offering was the 142 HPBT SMK. I'll look into those as well.

I realize the 107-130 grainers are the choice for the Benchrest crowd and I use them on the first 3 animals with no problems. Just ringing rams that urks me. That is why I don't need to shoot them real fast I just want the most force on target without bullets exploding on the face. The bullets we use are mainly for putting holes in paper so finding the ones that hold up best on steel is the challenge.

Right now I am shooting the 142 SMK with 39gr of H4350 that is moving around 2650 fps IIRC. Many people say they will get rung regardless of the round at times depending on impact point, wind pushing them up from behind etc and I know this to be true. But I think a little extra thump, providing it can be put consistently on the target sure can't hurt and might get you a Ram or two that otherwise would just ring.

Edit: I just located a nice data sheet on the 155 SMK and they look like a good choice to test first over the Woodleighs. They must cost less at least.

Anyone know who might have some .264" 155 SMKs in stock? I think the reason I never thought they went over 142s is because I can't even find the 155s for sale. Let me guess they were discontinued!

Mark Pharr and Agustin Sanchez use 139 Scenars and they do ok with them. ;D

It is my impression that these are hunting bullets designed for penetration. I am starting on a load for my 6.5x55 and will post the results when I am finished. My chronograph has died and I need another so it may be a few weeks.

BIB makes a 155 grain 264 bullet that runs about the same as bergers in price. I have only tried 5 of them for pressure signs in an old 96swede so far as I left the country soon after but I am looking forward to loading the rest once I am home. I like them because they hit to the original irons that were set for the old supper heavies back in the day.

Get in touch with Cauterucio Bullets. Bob makes a 155gr VLD that should put a steel ram down. They are made on Sierra jackets. His 141's and 147's work well on rams out of a 260 Rem also. He can also close the points for a slight additional charge. This helps to keep the jacket from blowing up when it hits steel. He has sold quite a few of his bullets to silhouette shooters.
