WOODEN cleaning vise?

93BA4029-F557-4067-AE0B-CF9E324BA6AF.jpeg I have an undisclosed :D number of 10-14 inch Contender and Encore barrels. Pain to hold while cleaning them so I made up a few of these. I clamp one on the barrel lug and another one at the end of the barrel. Use old socks on the clamp on the barrel. They work great for cleaning XP’s, revolvers etc. Last year I bought two rifles and use the clamp a few inches from the end of the muzzle.

"looking for a wooden cleaning vise/cradle, does anybody know where I can purchase one?"

I have used a "Decker" rifle vise for years. May try an internet search to see if they are still available. Hard wood padded upright supports, modified "C" clamp to capture butt stock, and high density composite base.

Well, just did a quick search, Decker was purchased in 2002 by Sinclair, Sinclair modified it to use a plastic base and marketed it for awhile and it is no longer in their product line.
There are pictures of them on the web. Very solid and useful for scope mounting and bore sighting. Would be an easy DIY build. That is what I will do if I every want a second one, no danger of me wearing this puppy out.

I carry one of these anywhere I shoot. Works as a cleaning clamp & useful to square any rifle up when setting up a scope to start with. It sits up fine without the clamps & the handle keeps cleaning rods from running away too.

I HAVE DONE THE SAME WITH THE HAND SCREWS ,BUT ADDED FOAM PIPE INSULATION TO THE JAWS

Been using my metal working vise for years. Fold up an old bath towel to pad the jaws and clamp the barrel. I use a plastic ammo box to raise the rear of the rifle to gain a down angle on the barrel, under the grip area. De-prime my brass while the barrel is soaking. This method works for me with out problems. The bath towel also is used for wiping my cleaning rods.

Purchase this wood vise from Harbor Freight and a 2x6 or 2x8 and cobble a nice rifle holder together a few screws, saw, sandpaper....bada Bing, bada boom....

I have had this one for many years. I do not remember who made it or where I bought it. I made a few minor improvements to it like metal corner brackets and better leather in the front saddle. Cam action holds butt stock securely.DSC02854.JPG DSC02855.JPG
