Wondering why you dont remove the old primer before you tumble?

I de-cap, put brass in my thumbler's tumbler model "B" with hot water and lemon joy detergent. Run 4hrs, remove and rinse brass. Every thing is clean even the primer pockets. Let dry next to wood heater. Re-size, trim to length, seat primer, drop powder and seat bullet. Results quick and easy reloading with no dust, no fuss and no picking media from flash holes.

Tumble ~20 mins. Then resize, prep brass, reload then tumble again to remove any left over lube. Dryer sheets work great. I also use Dillon brite.

You guys might experiment with shooting your brass up to 10 times without tumbling. You might be surprised. In my experience, up to the time when the necks need annealing, I've seen ZERO advantage in shiny brass. And I actually get lower ES/SD with cases that have been fired a couple times and have some carbon inside the necks.

I do tumble pistol brass because it gets dirty. But I can get the carbon off my neck exteriors with a patch and ballistol. In the same quick process it cleans and lubes the case.

At some point carbon build-up INSIDE the cases may be a problem if you don't segregate your brass by # of times shot. Then you have a choice: tumbler dry, tumble wet with stainless, or clean ultra-sonically.

If you are concerned about knocking your de-capping pin out of whack, try one of the Lee de-capping dies. A piece of media will not bend the tip. You can put it in another die box and throw the red box away if you are worried that your friends might see it :)
