Wonder if a Black Powder Cartridge Trick Would Work...

My brother shoots BPC Silhouette and Schutzen. One trick they use is a layer of tissue or paper at the bottom of the case so that the primer flame, in theory, spreads out to a more even ignition of the powder (which of course is an explosive as opposed to our accelerant powders). Wonder if one could improve ES/SD numbers with it. Of course their cases are straight walled and easier to insert things into. If only more match rounds used SRPs!
Obviously I have not enough to do today!

My own input, black powder does not ignite or burn any where as efficient as does smokeless, with combustion being dismal in comparison. While I don't believe it would harm anything to try it with smokeless, I myself would not and don't believe there would be anything to gain by doing so.

I have a friend who will do that for smokeless powder. He thinks a few granules of powder will get it the flash hole, make a initial combustion and show signs of high pressure before it truly is. He also thinks that initial combustion will loosen primer pockets prematurely.

I don't do it. Ymmv

I was about to quote Larry Medler & his experiment in screening powder for grain size & I see that like German, his site has gone to the great archive in the cloud.

Don't know if you already do this, but here in Spain, everybody goes for the magnum version of the same primer when it comes to black powder shooting.
