Wolf small rifle standard primers

my buddy ordered small rifle magnum Wolf primers (I have been using them-very good)
he received standard small rifle primers.
Anyone have success with them?

the standards work just as well, the difference is they don't have as hard of a primer cup. If you are pushing loads to the max you might run into primer problems. Just my 2 cents.

I have run around 20,000-30,000 of them through my rifles. I have fired about 75% of those through A/R's, and close to the same amount of their "magnum" version. My experience with them has been "two thumbs up". I have used them in my Dasher, 6BR, 6.5 Grendel, .223's, .20's, etc. with absolutely no issues EXCEPT I have found that excessive headspace condition that would be acceptable for most other primers to fire can cause erratic failure to fire in worst case, and varying speed at the least. Also - I once used a particular primer pocket uniformer (non-adjustable) on some PPC brass and despite proper headspace, I encountered several Failure to fires. So - as long as you keep your shoulders "long" and your primer pockets shallow - you will love these primers. That also applies to the non-magnum version.

This is an old thread. It reminded me of using the Wolf standard primers in my ppc at the 2005 IBS Score Nationals and blanking a blanken primer- freezing the firing pin causing me to drop 10 points. They worked great all season up to then. IIRC the temps were mid-90's at Weikert.

If these are the copper cup primers, I think they are intended for Hornet/Bee class cartridges, not to be confused with Wolf SRM or 5.56 which are intended for high pressure cartridges.

I've been using TULA/Wolf SRM's in the PPC (that's ALL I use in the PPC) and other SR cases and can't say enough about them. The Standards are in the same class (cup strength wise) as CCI 400's

Aren't you just supposed to seat any primer to where they are just bottomed out in the pocket?

I don't see it on my phone here but on some sites in the top right hand corner of the forum there's a little tab that you can click to reorganize the topics old to new, new to old, etc. Something I'd never noticed till I clicked on one by accident and started to reply before realizing they were all 15 year old threads...I was almost "that" guy

The Wolf primers tend to be slightly larger diameter, so take a bit more seating pressure plus they seem to require seating so that you "set" the anvil. It feels like you are seating to a very firm degree but you can develop a feel for it, then everything works reliably.

You need to crush them? I have used a lot of Wolf primers and just bottom them in the pocket like any other. No problems. I have had two misfires in all of my years. None were Wolf. They were either CCI or Winchester LG Rifle.

100% agree with this. If you use a hand primer your thumb is gonna get sore REAL FAST...

I already have a feel for how they are supposed to be seated. No different than any other primer I have seated
