wolf primers

Ok these are in stock at a few places but want to know if I need the reg or the mags. I shoot a 22-250 ackley imp and a 280 rem ackley improved. Do the large rifle mag primers have a harder cup like the small rifle? Are the mags hotter or does it not matter which one I buy.

You want the magnums for both cartridges you mentioned. The Wolf magnums aren't any hotter than their standards - the primer cups are just thicker, and therefore tougher, than the standards.

If I've still got them, I could go back through the primer flash photos of the LR primer tests German ran last year, and compare the Wolf LRMs to Fed 210s.

Per my own experience in 6XC, 6.5x55 AI, and a couple of straight 284s, the Wolf LRM, CCI BR2, & F210 are within 15fps of each other in all three cases with identical charges, bullets, & seating depths. IOW, if the Wolf LRM is hotter, it's not enough hotter to consistently produce higher velocities in these three cartridges.

Edited to add:
I went back and reviewed the photos German sent to accompany the large primer article, and found that he'd tested PMC Russians, not Wolf LRMs. I'm not sure how the PMCs & Wolf LRMs compare to each other, but the flash photos show the PMCs & F210s to be almost identical, while the BR2s are considerably more violent.

Think whatever you like. It's all here in the threads.

I am basing my thoughts off my own testing in the back 'yard' that I did when I chose my primers for my Palma loads. THe Wolf, not PMC) LR and LRM didnt seem to produce ANY difference in velocity but I did notice just a wee bit better SD on the LRM. Its the LRM that are in my Palma loads. For everything else, I have used the LR and LRM interchangably. The same cant be said for my experiences with the WOlf SR and SRM versions.
