With a Heavy Heart I post this Don "Stick" Stark" has passed

Stick.jpg

I met Stick several times at various meets at the Pine Valley Benchrest Range in Huntsville, TX. What a nice and humorous guy that was fun to be around even if he didn't know you. Just the other day I was talking to a guy I had never met before and somehow the conversation turned into rifles. He told me that he had a custom long range rifle made by Stick and I was able to tell him that I had met Stick and then the conversation turned into one about Stick. No other way to put it than he was just fun to be around.

Oh my. Don was such a nice guy and a super good friend. Some may not know this but he was a super talented automotive machinist back in the day as well. He turned out a lot of quality work on race motors at ABC performance in Odessa tx. Dons gonna be missed by a lot of people he influenced with his knowledge through the years. RIP my friend. Bill

I would like to do an "in Memoriam" for Stick.

He helped us with a couple projects.

If someone who knew Stick Starks personally can help with this, please send words and photos via PM to Forum Boss. Thanks.

Very sorry to hear. We are losing a lot of great people lately. So, my respects to Don, even though I never knew him. Guys like him make our worlds go round.

I shot with Stick several times at matches and at the range just shooting few times. He would always be willing to help, offer advise, and share his knowledge. One day I stopped by S&S and they were closed which I didn't realize. He brought me in the shop and he was bedding a Model 7 he had barreled. He gave me a lesson on how to bed a rifle. That was how he made a his living and was sharing his knowledge with me for free. I really appreciated him doing that and will never forget it.

Even though I didn't know him, may he rest in peace. When shooting world greats like him pass, I'm reminded of the song, "Who's gonna fill their shoes"?

I talked to Sticks a few times at S&S and he was very knowledgeable smith. My dad shot benchrest in PA. in the old days and we talked and laughed about those adventures. I will miss talking with Sticks may he RIP.
