Wipe Out Cleaner!! Help!

So I keep hearing wipe out is the way to go. I bought some and tried spraying in in the bore as directed, also used the accelerator. it seems like more of the foam was on the floor and the can than in the barrel. Is this just illusion? I held the can's cone firmly to the barrel, I also used the straw. any feedback appreciated.

Jim: Don't feel alone. I tried to use tight fitting plastic tubing & every means possible to control it. I will not take the chance of it getting down into the receiver/stock bedding & everywhere else except where it belongs. On top of that used my Hawkeye to do a borescope comparison, before and after, and it did nothing to remove the carbon in the bore, as claimed. I know others swear by it, and good for them, but I will not use it. At the bottom of my list of cleaning products that work.

The Patch Out is much less mess to use, and I've been well pleased with it's copper cleaning ability. I use TEC or Carb-Out mostly, for carbon. I've yet to find a cleaner that works well for both carbon and copper, so I attack the carbon, then go after the copper. Borescope confirms that it works well, for me.--Mike Ezell

I think the stuff works great to "fill" the barrel and let it sit overnight. I dont use it as a "quick" cleaner, but I use it when I get home from a hunt or a shoot and then plan to clean the next day.. Cuts my brushing & flooding time down alot.....

But you need to have the little hose adapter do-hicky that allows you to apply it from the chamber end. It takes just a 1/2 second "blast" and it (foam) will exit the barrel. The do-hicky replaces the cap on the can and is a clear flex tube appx 9" long with a with a plastic piece that fits into the chamber/bore area and when held firm, will fairly seal the area. Will you get some in the chamber? oh yeah, but 95% of the stuff will expand towards the muzzle end.. Go to the wipeout website and you'll see it.

With the do-hicky and practice, you will get where you are wasting little and the can lasts.

I think it works great as a "pre" cleaner, it does remove copper and bore crap. It works great when you have time.. I do use "Patch-out" and the "Accelrator" for reg cleaning. I check for copper with Mt Extreme Copper Killer and find that I dont need to use it too much after wipeout/patch out. I too have borescoped after use and find that it does work for me, to my expectations. Is it a single use, throw away all other cleaner, cause this is the greatest cleaner ever? Heck no, but there is no one single product that can do it all... I go after carbon with Iosso...

As with any cleaner, it has its niche and uses. I like it.. But get the do-hicky tube... other wise you are wasting your time and money....

I use the straw, which fits very tightly inside my bore guide. I squirt the foam until some comes out the muzzle, which I've draped a paper towel over. All it takes is a quick half second or so squirt. I put an aluminum brownie pan under the muzzle while I let the whole thing sit overnight.

The next day there'll be a blue pool on the bottom of the brownie pan. Another little squirt, and I run a nylon brush through the bore a few times. Clean patches, an alcohol soaked patch, and I'm done.

I use a borescope too, and usually carbon isn't an issue for me. When it is, I've used Carb-out and Boretech C4 carbon remover (I prefer the former).

I use Wipe Out and Patch out exclusively. For Wipe Out, I hit on this technique:
Get a delrin bore guide from Sinclair and drill a shallow (1/2" or so) 3/8" bore in the back end
Get about a foot (more works better) of plastic tubing, 1/4" ID x 3/* OD (clear vinyl works for me)
The tubing fits snug into the bore guide, the bore guide helps seal the chamber


Forgive the reference to Sinclair, just where I buy my stuff. I hang a plastic bottle over the muzzle to catch the excess, and leave the tubing and Wipe Out can attached to the bore guide over night. I do normally give it a swab with accelerator beforehand of course. This is my no-mess method for using the foam.

I use wipe & start with the liquid to get the real loose stuff out.
I do not use the straw or cone at all.
I take a short cleaning rod with rag on it, stick it in my action (bolt removed) so its still backed out a tad for the pressure to pass it when spraying. At the muzzle end I put the foam can firmly to the bore, give it a very fast shot, put my finger over the end and look at the breach...if the foam is not into the chamber in a second or 2 I give it another very quick shot, usualy does it. I put the rod into the chamber to keep it from coming into the action. I let it foam out the muzzle end when its expanding & not very much comes back out when you get it down to perfection.
I put the buttstock on a piece of wood to level the gun out. Works perfect every time.
Once you do that a couple of times you get the feel of exactly how fast you need to hit the foam top to fill the bbl up without a mess at all. Very fast/short bursts is all it take to fill it up.

I also use the accelarator with the above technique and have the same results! A big blue pool of #*^%$ comes out! I find it to be quick.

I have followup with Bore-Tech and had nothing but clean patches.

I also use Bore-Tech eliminator & carbon remover at times.

Any comments on Bore-Tech products???

I've been using Wipe-Out since it came out. Some guys like applying through beech. That works best if you get some plastic tubing that's a good fit in the chamber. You may need two diameters, one for the nozzle, fitted inside the breech.

My method requires no tubing.

1. Put towel on comb of buttstock
2. Insert cleaning rod bore guide with O-rings (must have good seal in chamber)
3. Press Wipe-Out Nozzle to muzzle. Give one shot (1/2 second) squirt.
4. Wait a few seconds and then do another squirt. Wait and see if foam is coming out the end of bore-guide. Reapply (short squirt) if needed.
5. Wait about 20-30 minutes for bubbles to dissipate. Squirt again from muzzle until 1" of foam appears at end of bore guide.
6. Check towel to make sure No Wipe-out is soaking through.
7. After a couple hours, patch out with dry patches.

If you use a guide rod and learn how to do short squirts, you should be able to control the foam flow so that just an inch or two of bubbles exits the bore guide. Soak this up with the towel.

I like to keep the gun tilted muzzle down (just a couple degrees) just so the Wipeout won't flow towards the chamber when it liquefies.

Apparently the wipeout is doing a good job of carbon removal on my 6.5-284. According to the can instructions, a brown or reddish brown stain on your patch is the result of removing carbon. After I get clean patches, I double ck by soaking the bore overnight w/Mercury power tune, and so far, the power tune has not shown any further carbon present. I have even done a double ck by one more overnight soak w/Carbon Killer, and still it cks clear of carbon. Larry in western Ky

Using a pistol cleaning rod with a chamber mop and two large patches. Push it in through the breach and into the chamber while the little red applicator line is in the chamber. This keeps the foam from running back into the action. A short squirt of a couple of seconds and it will pour out the end of the barrel. I don't believe it cleans all the carbon out of the throat. I can't be sure, because I don't have a bore scope.

I saw a post recently where wipeout patchout + accelerant was a very good copper cleaner. The best over all by a mile was kg 12. Think it was on snipershide maybe.
