WIPE OUT BORE CLEANER?

Just finished reading the review on Wipe Out Bore Cleaner and had a question. I've used this in a .308 Savage, and 22.250 VSSF. After firing about 30 rounds thru the Savage and about 45 rounds thru the VSSF, I run a few Kroil patches down the barrel, dry it out and then use the Wipe Out. I let the Wipe Out sit over night, and get very little blue to no blue on the patches. I dry it out and then pass a few Kroil patches followed by one dry patch. I've also tried 2 over night applications with the same results.

I was thinking the patches would be loaded with blue copper fouling. Am I missing something?

Kroil is good stuff but it clings and penetrates like nobody's business, and it's probably sealing the metal off from the Wipe-Out. We suggest you use a carbon cleaner first, No Kroil, then apply Wipe-Out Accelerator on a couple patches, then add the Wip-Out. With your narrow .223 diameter bore, you may also not be getting the foam all the way down into the bore. We squirt for about a half second, then wait for the bubbles to settle a bit, then squirt again. Rather than hard-plug the breach, we seal the breech with an O-ring bore guide. When you can see foam coming out the end of the bore guide, then you know you've coated the barrel.

It's also not a bad idea to re-apply after three hours.

We've also found that Wipe-Out produces less "blue" than products like Sweet's. But a visual inspection of the barrel shows that the copper did come out.

Thanks for the tips. I use the bore guide and I am certain the bore is full of the Wipe Out. I was thinking maybe the Kroil was chemically reacting with the Wipe Out and messing things up a bit. I tried Wipe Out one time by itself and got some carbon out and then tired a second application and saw very little blue. Isn't the Wipe Out supposed to get the Carbon out too?

Next time out I will use something to get the Carbon out first and follow your suggestions.

I find the stuff to be marginal at best in its cleaning ability. I wipe the big crud out with a patch and oil, run the wipe out twice, and I still gets lots more carbon out afterwards with regular cleaning techniques. This was in my 30-06 and 243 hunting rifles BTW.

Frank--maybe there just aint much copper in there??
