I used to use sail tails, but a few years ago went back to a plain ribbon that flops in the wind.

I use just regular white ribbon you buy at WallMart or Hobby Lobby.

Yes. The arrow is a very nice visual. It seems that it is stating the obvious however there are a few shooters that intentially reverse their flag colors. It helps me to have the arrows for sure

The second set are these Hood doubles vanes.

My favorites are these airfoil shaped flags made from foam wing material. They react instantly to change in direction as air speed changes dramatically over a curved surface.

I have a very simple system to transport and store them. I use a plastic tool box for the flags and tails and a youth zippered rifle case for the poles. I do not use daisies on mine so a bit easier to do. If you use daisies then a Tupperware cake case does great for them.

What kind of poles are you using?

Photographic light stand poles...they have a nice thumb latch for locking. Also have some golf ball retriever poles that twist to lock and extend. -Al

I use a small Plano fishing tackle box for my Aussie,BRT, wind flags.


The wire clip keeps the tails from going crazy. They only go up and down.

Every time I see these, I feel like I need to make a set. Foam wing cores are easy to obtain. Can cover them with Monokote.

Would you be willing to share some of the design concepts? I'd be interested in what COG you used to determine the pivot point as well as what you used to make the pivot and how it is secured in the foam core. Seems like some glue would do the trick.

Who is making a good single vane windflag now days?

Whomever flags you buy make sure that they are balanced. I went to the 1-200 yard IBS score Nationals in VA last September and the guy that was on my rotation we were using this brand of flag, (I'm not saying who's they were) and they weren't balanced worth a damn. Dean Breeden who was on my rotation pointed this out. I don't know why anyone would ship these flags out of their shop like this.

Jim, I have better luck with a little more weight on the tail. Minimizes the windshield wiper effect.
Use whatever you feel best for your self.

I use the graham flags with the 1/2 white and 1/2 black ball (do not like the daisy wheels) with sail tails from Snuffy Smith and poles from Bill Dittman from riverbend. I prefere these to any other

Home Depot high vis. i have 2.
1 veins & 2 pinwheels, stakes,. Walkies .
Set it on or in front of bench & use it to stay lined up with the correct bench.
Don't ask me why i need to do this ! Duhh ..
