Wind flags

This might be a good time to list those attributes that are desirable in a wind flag, and what separates good ones from mediocre, or even home made ones.

I only started using my home made flags this year for 2 and 3 hundred yd shooting. Had to get permission from the range owner first, of course. But they do help.

They are nothing more than bright pink surveyors tape atop a PVC pole screwed into a wooden base. But they work, sort of, and help with understanding wind movement on that particular range. Obviously they fall well short of imparting the kind of information a good quality flag does, and this is my point in asking the question. What am I looking for in a wind flag?

Visibility, sensitivity, durability, and transportability are the big factors.
They need to be light and a small pivot has much less area for drag. Don't get caught up into ball bearings. They sound good but actually slow the response...again, more area=more drag. A sealed bearing has more drag than an open one but dirt will enter the open design.

My flags are very light and sensitive. The vane, shaft and pinwheel are entirely fiberglass, so very durable for their weight. I use premium florescent vinyl colors and all parts are serviceable.
Two color options..florescent green or chartreuse, both with orange shown. The chartreuse really pops. I can never get photos to show their true color. They are a bit greener than they appear in the pics.
