Wind flags?

Anyone here build there own wind flags? If so what did you use for the pivot? Also any pics of the ones you built?

Thanks

If you really want to win, buy some good ones. This is one place not to spare a dollar. They're a couple brands that are winners. A lot of flags can show you the wind direction. Some respond faster. Some are easier for you to read. If they are not adjusted properly they will give you a windshield wiper effect. A lot of folks blame other things and get lost, tuning and buying barrels instead of using good flags.

We use PVC small tubing for the flag post, put solid rod with washer welded at desired height into ground. Put tube over rod, flags are different colors for different ranges. We use 14x14 material from sewing shop. We use wind meter at shooting table and watch the flags for our 1000 to 1750 yd shots.
You can double material at edge and screw into PVC tube or wrap material around tube and use silicone to hold. Match tube size to rod size for easy waving.....Works for us. If we shoot at paper we just use survey orange or yellow flags on wire in straight line. We have confirmed PD kills from 10 yards to 1590 yards, never more than 6 rounds fired pasted 1000 yds at each target.

If you want to save money, surveyor tape is better than nothing. I just can't see skimping here, though. Flags are something that can make a real difference in our shooting. We spend thousands of dollars on our equipment...Why skimp on something as important to this game as the tools you use to read the wind better than the guy next us on the firing line? IMO, we would being doing ourselves a favor to spend the time it takes to become intimately familiar with our flags. They ARE that important! Any flag will show the "big" stuff, some better and faster than others, but every bit of wind matters. That's where the better flags really shine. The best wind flag is your bullet and it'll let you know if your flags aren't up to par with your equipment. If you want to improve your shooting, get some good flags and get to know them well. Becoming friends with the wind and the tools to read it is huge in this game. Be better than your competition here, and you'll win some matches.--Mike Ezell

I design & build most of my gear myself anything from coaxial rest to rifle stock ,but have to say building flags is the bigest pain in the *** as you have to repeat everything so many times ,so hat off to people that build them for a living

Here are my flags ,vanes and tubing is carbon fiber bearings are from hard disk and fags move on two axes also indicating vertical wind these are super responsive and tailored for low wind conditions ,tails come from VCR tape as are as light and as responsive as it gets.

+1
By the time I got mine built...I had no hair left from pulling it all out and had spent way way way too much money...i could have bought 3 sets for what it cost me to make a single set after all the tinkering...The ones ive got work but they are still not comparable to others i have shot next too.

Ever given this a thought?

I looked all through this and it appears that it only gives info where your sensor is located. Just like using one windflag it appeares.

Reading this:

I'm left with the impression that it will support multiple sensors.

It probably can, but what value do you program for each sensor. Jerry Hensler has been fooling with this for years. I believe he may have some post on BR.Com at this time.

Such a device would only be legal for Heavy Bench Rifle Competition (IBS).....I don't see how such a device could be used successfully in competition since seasoned competitors take information from flags from adjacent lanes relying pretty much on peripheral vision.

Yeah, I hadn't figured that into the equation. But I wonder if it might not be something a guy could use to practice comparing wind flags with actual wind readings and, perhaps, sharpen skills for reading the flags.
Just an idea........................
