Winchester Model 70 Varmint 22-250

I'm seeking any input on the above rifle. To the best of my knowledge, the rifle was produced between 88 and 94 I think with a 14T and a 26-inch stainless heavy barrel. And perhaps a H-S Precision stock with aluminum block and was pillar bedded.

The heavy varmint would have the stainless barrel and the hs stock. I'm not home to look at my blue book but they were produced in the late 90s. If my memory is right they we maybe like 95 to 99

I have one in 222 223 and 22 250. All shoot good with flat base bergers. Even type them into Google and on post forums you'll see people loved them was very accurate factory guns.

I had one, excellent rifle. I don't remember the twist, but it probably was 14" since that was the standard for the 22 250 before the heavy bullet craze hit.

Mine liked 50 BT Nosler's with IMR 4064. It was bona fide 1/2 moa rifle for sure with tuned reloads.

The only compliant and it was a major issue with me, was the stock, while excellently bedded and structurally sound, had this weird, extremely wide, beaver tail forearm. It wouldn't fit properly between my shooting stick even though I tried in vain to make it work since I liked the rifle so much. Since I purchased the rifle as a varmint hunting rifle, this configuration would not work for me. So, rather than modify the stock of an expensive rifle and ruin its resale value, I sold the rifle to get back my investment.

This is the risk one takes when they order a firearm without having the benefit of examining it first. Fortunately, I got back most of my investment. If you are a bench shooter this rifle with that strange forearm should work great. If you are field shooter, make sure that stock is not a hinderance to your field shooting method.

I think the Winchester heavy varmint rifles had Wilson barrels on them.
I was gonna say the same..or at least that's what I've read or heard. Mine was a real shooter, with a ss fluted 14tw 22-250 bbl, hs full bedding block stock. It's still the most accurate factory rifle I've ever owned. Of course the bbl didn't last real long but I actually won a club br shoot against high end custom builds with that rifle one day! One or two of the guys there went on to set or tie the fairly new ubr records of the time, so it was a pretty tough crowd, too. I went on to re bbl it with a shilen select match ratchet rifled 14tw bbl but honestly, it shot about the same as it did with the factory bbl! I feel safe saying that it was an exceptional factory rifle, by any name, but I'd like to have another one that would shoot like it did!

The later Winchester model 70 Varmint was made in 2 configurations. A hammer forged heavy 26 inch barrel 22/250 made 1964-1993 with target scope bases. A second configuration was made in 22/250 with heavy 26 inch fluted stainless steel barrel and black HS beaver tail stock, made 1993-1999. Fluted barrel has $125 premium. Per Blue Book of Gun Values.

Have one in .223. I love it. Cost me about $400.00 in a package deal with a Jap Tasco 6 24x scope.

Shot like S^*t at first----about 6" groups. then I noticed a little flag on the bullet holes in the targets. Kept shooting it and it turned out to be a tack driver after losing the metal tag/burr in the barrel.

Now shoots way under 1/2 " Gettin' Old----that is about the best I can do now.

Love the rifle. Yes HS stock.
