Winchester Model 12 Repair Resource?

Gentlemen,
Any input on a gunsmith resource for Model 12 Winchesters? I have a Model 12, SN 1405438, that was foisted upon me by a friend, that will not function with a Hastings Vent Rib with Screw in Chokes. Works fine with the factory barrel. I don't seem to be able to come across my Design & Function notes from the CST on the Model 12 and hence it has me looking for any available trouble shooting guide, if I might be so lucky, as opposed to a collector's piece. Any input appreciated... Regards, Matt Garrett CST 05'-07' 757-581-6270

Matt, I have fitted several Hastings barrels to Model 12's...what is the malfunction?? You may need a chamber reamer {high probability} and a selection of "adjusting sleeves". If I remember right there were about 8 different ones, but you only need the one that works. AGI has a dvd that covers fitting barrels to the Model 12 very well if you want to try this yourself. Here is my number if you have any questions, where in Va. do you live??? I am in southern Maryland. 301-994-9461

Wright's, in pickneyville Illinois they are model 12 experts. Talk to Scott.

Gentlemen,
You can't imagine just how much I appreciate your help and input. The Model 12 is a little before my time, however, despite the fact this one is field worn I have developed an appreciation for the amount of time and hand fitment involved is obvious. That was stood out on so many of the pre-64 guns. Some more than others... I would like to thank you all once again...

msinc,
Unfortunately all the way to the Carolina/Virginia line roughly 7 miles from the ocean. I am more than a little chagrined that I am going on the customer's failure analysis, which per a conversation this morning is 15 years old(aka USELESS). I need to run a variety of shell through the shotgun and make exact notes where/if/when during the firing/charging cycle we have a failure. At this point I don't have anything intelligent to pass on to you. I will give you a call as soon as I do. Thank you for your interest and courtesy.

I have an appt with a lawyer later this morning and a appt with Hansohn Brothers to pick up several Thunder Beast Supressors either late today or early tomorrow. Seems like a lot of conditions for a guy in need of help..;) For that I apologize. I will be in touch as quickly as possible. Thank you.

Steve,
Thank you very much. I will write that contact down. Greatly appreciated.

Kmart,
Exactly what I asked for... Thank you in the extreme. Not exactly a drop-in barrel to say the least. I can't begin to express how NOT excited I would be about filing on receiver face. Somehow maintaining a 2-3 degree angle on the outside edges... This is a job that almost demands a specialist. I will, more than likely, never see another model 12... Wow. I think I'll take up regulating double rifles next week...:D

Call when ready Mr. Garrett. Looking back at the post, I left out the fact that I actually have had several Hastings barrels go right on and work. Most of the time the chamber does in fact line right up, it's just when you turn the barrel assembly 90 degrees it is either too tight and wont go all the way or it gets where it needs to be but is loose. This is what the adjusting sleeve corrects for. I think I have 5 or 6 of them and they do sell which ever one you need separate, you just have to know which one to order. You should not file or fit the face of the receiver.
Sounds like you might possibly have some other issue?? One thing the Model 12 was famous for is the action bar wearing out. When this happens the gun will blow itself open when you fire it. I get all my parts from Midwest Gunworks. Nu-Line also has some stuff.
If you are going to mess around much with Model 12's the dvd that AGI puts out is worth the fifty bucks. The guy on the video has a real bad lisp...it's like being instructed by Sylvester the cat.

generally headspace on a model 12 must be completed to fit a barrel and the bushing which threads onto the barrel has several lock in areas to tighten up barrel in rec. just my two cents worth . that being said Simmons can build you a whole new model 12 if you want .
