Winchester Brass Neck Thickness Differences

Out of the 28 pieces, the 15 that did size the neck are all about . 332" in diameter at the neck. Which makes no sense because the bushing is a 335. Of the pieces that didn't get the NE k sized, the pieces are 332-3325. All these pieces of brass were bought as new factory loaded ammo. All of it is Winchester Super X Power Point. It was fired one time from my rifle. That is all. I don't have the lot info for the ammo as I tossed the boxes.

I understand that neck thickness is what is the issue here, but wouldn't the neck expand when the round was fired and open it up to match the neck portion of the chamber in my rifle? Especially if the neck was thinner I would expect it to expand even more than a thicker walled case.

I discovered this back in 2007 and talked to Patrick Ryan about it - the following year they put a warning in the catalogue about it - it is on the lower right hand corner of page 3 of the 2014 catalogue. Probably in the same place in the new one too.

Jeez, based on your forum moniker, I thought you would be much bigger, big ed. BTW nice touch with the matching purses. Was it the "when in Rome, do what the Romanians do" thing? ;)

Check your Redding bushing for run out. I've seen some bad bushings. Hole off center, drilled crooked, etc.

Dear CatShooter

Some days I would like to shoot you with a dull bullet for some of your unfinished cryptic replies here.

For the sake of the people who do not have the 2014 catalog and page three of the new 2015 catalog is carbide pistol dies...................

Just when we thought you were going to ride to the rescue you crap all over the unicorn and slip off his back and ruin the ending of the story! :o

P.S. The Japanese have a name for a guy like you.......................a big plick! >:(

This is on page seven of the newest catalog............ ::)

The easiest way to determine the proper diameter bushing,
is to measure the neck diameter of several loaded
or dummy cartridges with an accurate micrometer.
Subtract .001”–.002” from the average neck diameter
and this diameter bushing will generally size case necks
to create the proper press fit for the bullet.

Note: If the neck wall thickness of your cases is on the
thin side of the SAAMI tolerance, your fired case necks
will measure considerably larger (.006-.010” larger)
than your loaded cartridges. Under these circumstances,
our tests have shown that a bushing .001“ larger may
give the desired results.

Another method is to measure the neck thickness with a
ball micrometer. Double the neck wall thickness and
add this number to the bullet diameter. The result is the
neck diameter of a loaded cartridge, and bushing size
can be determined as above.

After loading several cases, it’s a good idea to test the
neck’s grip on the bullet. The simplest method is to push
the bullet in a loaded cartridge against the edge of your
reloading bench with moderate hand pressure. The bullet
should not move easily in the case neck. If the bullet
pushes deeper in the case, select the next smaller bushing
and start again.

When using your bushing die, we have found that lubricating
case necks and installing the bushing numbers
down may improve results. Many reloaders like to
adjust the die to size 1/2 to 3/4 of the case neck. This
has been shown to improve accuracy in some instances.

Why should she get mad? The big bills and Viagra were in HER purse. Your only option was to take a few pics of the ladies. You didn't marry no dummy.

2. My wife is carrying the purse but her money is in her front pocket,

First time I went to EU in '86, I saw local women shopping in Amsterdam, walking around with handbags with long, stout shoulder straps, only they held the bag tightly against their chests and had the strap intertwined several times around their upper arms. Almost as if they feared someone trying to snatch the handbag from them. I never did figure it out ...

Since the thread has taken this turn I'll share too. In Philidelphia an older woman was interviewed about the increased purse snatching. She pointed out that she carried all her valuables in her pocket and just carried cheap purses she bought for a buck apiece at the thrift store. She'd give them a stuffed look with bits of garbage and old clothing. Also cut the strap part way through so when it was grabbed it wouldn't pull her to the ground.

This old gal has it all figured out.
