Winchester 70 stock question

I think this would be the right place to put this question. I have a push feed model 70 in 06 that I just put a bartlein carbon fiber #4 on and now am wondering with the number 4 bull sporter would I still be ok with a sporter stock and open it up enough to fit it or just get a varmint channel with more meat and be done. I have been looking at h&s stocks took measurements but still haven’t decided if the sporter that I’d rather have has enough meat to take out and make it work.

I have kinda gravitated back to looking at McMillan now
Bell and carlson makes pretty much the same stock as the hs prec but cheaper and no lon horiuchi involvement. To answer your question, back when carbon barrels were new i tried everything i could to make a sporter stock work but no luck. You can get an AG composites stock that will fit it like a glove, has a sporter forend, and is made from carbon fiber so it weighs about half as much as the HS sporter

I really do like the ag composite but they don’t inlet for a model 70 as far as I have found anywhere.

Id just make it fit and paint it to match
How would you make a stick fit for a round action work with a flat bottom with integrated recoil lug?

Without a mill, I wouldn't buy a $600 stock and hope to make it fit.

OP - I'm looking to replace a B&C on a M70 PF. I put a Bartlein 3b on it, and the inleting I did is not ideal. Only one I found for a 1 piece floorplate is McMillan. B&C onlt has a oem sporter inlet, and HS only inlets for the two piece floorplate.

I could make a model seven stock fit a bat M with a dremel. Any stock will fit any action. Remington tang going to a benchrest tang, ruger angle bolted recoil lug into a stock with no lug, i just put a vudoo with a magazine into a single shot 40x stock. All you gotta do is grind away whats not supposed to be there and fill in what is, then if you care, paint it to match. It doesnt matter what was in there or whats going in

Here is one that went the other way- a 40x rimfire temporarily/semi-permanently stuck in a former square tang benchrest stock that had a square bottom/tang panda action in it for barrel testing one time. Epoxy and sandpaper can build anything. Beat it to fit, paint it to match is my motto.

First of all, that is good work. It takes skill to do what you do, so I see your point. A man can make it work with a brain, some tools, and time.

At this stage of life, I'd rather spend more and get something that is inletted well enough that basic bedding is all I need. Maybe when the kids are out of diapers I may change my view.
