Winchester 70 scope base

Bought this Winchester for FTR that came with a base that sets the scope to far forward for me to use . I ordered a new base that's nowhere near right . This is a clip slotted match action . Can anyone tell me what to order ? IMG_20220126_193911260.jpg

These actions have a different hole spacing on the rear bridge than the standard long actions of that era. I doubt if a 1 pc. custom rail type base is made for it since these have only become popular long after these actions were in vogue. You should be able to use a picatinny LA M70 base and either just utilize 3 holes in the action or put an extra hole in the base to fit the action holes. I'm assuming this is a factory clip slotted action, which were all made on the long action (regardless of caliber). If it's a short action, it was slotted post factory and you'll need a short action rail and make the same adjustments as above. There were at least 4 different hole spacings on the rear on Model 70's.

Just ordered one from EGW . They show a schematic with all the hole spacing , should fit . It is a long action factory clip slotted .

Having the schematic with the hole spacing should solve your problem. I assume this is a post 64 push feed. The ones produced for the .30-06 had the holes on the rear bridge closer together than the standard LA sporter action since the clip slot shortened the rear bridge. That same long action was produced in .308 using the same hole spacing as the LA sporter, (.860" on both ends) made possible by extending the rear bridge forward to make the clip slot line up with the back of the magazine (which was a longer magazine blocked in for the .308). Postwar pre-64 actions for .300 & .375 H&H and clip slotted .30-06 target actions share the same hole spacings (different from the ones above) and then the post-64 long magnums (.300 & .375 H&H, .300 Wby., 7 STW) have even closer spacing on the rear bridge. At least, the hole spacing on the front 2 holes and the spacing from the very front hole to the very back hole remained the same on all LA post war M70's (at least until FN took over and haven't kept track of them).

I cant figure out what the purpose in that scope base you have there is. You could saw off the weird barrel overhang and slide your scope back some more
