Winchester 17 Super Magnum Rifle Manufactures ??????

Does anyone beside Savage that is in production or has plans to produce a rifle in the 17 Winchester Super mag cartridge????? CZ ?, Anschutz ? Ruger ?, Winchester ?, Cooper ?, or ????????
 
I have heard about a winchester model that could ship this year, probably over $1000 though and volquartsen might be making one
 
I have heard that the ammo manufacture is having brass problems. Seems like the brass is bad for cracking.
 
I have found 6 that have cracked out of 200, there may have been some I didn't find. I found a few HMR with cracks though too
 
My 17WSM B-mag did split the case necks using the 25g ammo off and on during the initial break in period when the bbl was new. When a case does split, you will usually get a low flyer due to a little loss of pressure. It seems to have settled down now and I have not seen any lately. The Sav shoots the 25g ammo better than the 20g ammo for me. It is a very effective varmint and small game getter. Accurate well past 200yds. I am getting 1.3-1.5In groups at 200yds. It is fairly easy to shoot 2-3" shards of broken clay birds at 230yds at my local range. That is our max distance. I went for a long time before I ever missed a squirrel with it. Light and handy. I like the B-mag but it is Ugly, Cheap looking, hate the plastic stock. It would be nice to have a higher end option. CZ, Cooper, Annie, etc.

It seems to me that Winchester was offering a Lo-Wall rifle for their new 17WSM,have'nt seen one yet though.
Seen the B-Mag at Bass-Pro it is fugly too.But beauty is in the eye of the beholder.I'd like to see a contender barrel for it some day.

Contender barrels are already being made, google search it. Some have bought 17HMR barrels and PTG 17WSM reamers
 
I was going to buy one but they are just too darn ugly and cheap looking. The cartridge was designed for varmint shooting yet Savage doesn't make the first model a varmint version? I was really disappointed in that decision. I'm very surprised that the other manufacturer's haven't jumped on this yet. I know there are some brass problems with the ammo but they will get it right soon. The cartridge has good potential and should do very well for varmint hunting. My .17HMR Savage just doesn't have the poop for 200yd shots if there is any wind at all. Let's face it, few of us make the final decisions about which cartridge and rifle system we buy based on dollars. I mean, do we NEED another one? No. But that's why we have so darn many rifles after all, isn't it. Come on Savage, make a .17 Super Mag using the same design as the 93 series of your well received .17HMR rifles.
 
I know the B-mag is a "market entry" product, designed to attract new customers who might not plunk down the big bucks for a nicer, laminated stock or fluted HB model. Fugly is right. But, it is VERY functional. The dull grey finish on the metal is nice. The thin little bbl is still very accurate. I love the light weight for upland game hunting. The trigger is plenty good for a hunting gun. Frankly, all I would change is the stock. Nicer wood option is all I want. As soon as a nice one can be had, I will buy it. I love the cartridge. It is a step-change above my 17 HMR which is already very good. A 93R model in 17WSM would be great.

I just got my new savage B-mag last week ..Took it to the range the other day with the 25gr ammo and the results of the first 25 rounds were sad to say the least, so I packed it up with the thoughts of selling it as soon as could sit behind the computer.. BUT I didn't thank goodness, I got to looking at the ammo and u could tell that some of the rims of the cases were thicker than the others, so I made a jig that I could measure the rims. Come to find out the rims were all over the place. I sorted them by thickness took the rifle back to the range and the rifle shot much better.. the rims measured anywhere from .048 to .061 that's huge in a rimfire case.. the cases that were .057 to .061 would not extract and split at the shoulder.
The savage went from shooting 3" at 50yards to under 3/8 at 50 yards and it has shot under an 1" at 100 yards 4 shot groups.

I did a quick and cheap gauge by using a piece of 7mm Rem Mag brass but I didn't see the variance JHart has in rim thickness

The "buy a gun and grab a box of ammo of the shelf at the local Wally World verminator" isn't going to all that trouble to improve on a 3" group at 50yds. Unless the ammo quality control and manufacture gets more precise, this caliber and gun is DOA. Thanks for the update. One of those dogs is off my short list of next rimfire.
 
CCI used to make all 17HMR ammo. We had splits in all brands except CCI (we never shot the home brand).Winchester took their ammo to another manufacturer and Volquartsen recommends Winchester ammo. Volquartsen will have their super mag on the market this summer. The savages soot well but they are ugly.

If the Ruger is just another warmed over 77-22 I'll pass. I bought a Ruger 77 in 22 Hornet.. Took another $200 to get it to shoot acceptably..
 
Go to Sturm Ruger's site and check out their new bolt varminter with the rotary clip. Looks like a real solid gun.
