I am putting together a ftr 223 to shoot 75 amax and varget. which brass do you like best win or rem? I know lapua is what a lot will tell me but this is just a fun gun going the cheap route, i have three F open guns that i use lapua in. thanks

get some Lake City. i am tired of the folds and sometimes splits in the factory new winchester brass. in .223 i use LC exclusively. you can buy factory new from wideners or midway usa. other than that, lapua makes the best brass hands down

Yup, what those guys said.
I've a bunch of LC 1x mil I got for pennys each. Getting all the pressure and consistancy I can hope for.
You can use a little less powder and still get pressures because of the smaller capacity of at least the older stuff I have,,
Some of the stuff is on it's tenth loading and still fine,, ;)

thanks guys, ill try some lake city. My current load for it with some old rem brass is 25.5 varget, do i need to lower that with lake city and if so how much? I am getting no signs of pressure but that is close to a compressed load in the rem brass.

of course lower it. but, you might be able to take it up a notch since all of my LC brass weighs less and has much more internal volume than other brass that i have on hand

I'm sitting at 23.8-23.9 with Varget and 55grn bullets with my LC brass and a 22" barrel.
Pressure wasn't the issue, it's just the proper balanced load for my gun and accuracy.
Dime size groups at 200.

I use only Lapua in my competition .223; but I have a walk up chuck single shot H&R, and only Winchester in it. Never had a problem.

Natchez has Lake City new, 1,000 for 120$

most accurate domestic brass for the $$$

I've shot thousands of 223 reloads using both and have not noticed any difference with regards to accuracy. I tend to lean towards the Remington only because I always find three or four defective cases in each bag of Winchester brass that I buy, especially in the 22 250.

I am using some old rem brass that i have no idea how many firings are on them. Thought may be better if had some new stuff.

Well I just may be opposite of guys here. I like R P Brass. Seems to me to be as good as I can find without primer pocket swaging.

I have a couple of cases I could send you if you like. Primer pocket uniformed and flash holed. Actually have more than I would need.
