Win Model 70 trigger options?

Wanted to get some opinions on replacement triggers for a Model 70 short action. Will be used for prone/f-tr, so a 2 oz benchrest variant wouldn't be a wise move....
Any suggestions?

If your action uses the the pre MOA original design, the Rifle Basix trigger is a step up from the original. I have one set at 6oz and it has served adequately.

Try a Jewell you will not be sorry. they have a nice Mod. 70 trigger.

I have a model 22 X Treme shooting supply on my push feed m70 LA 6Br. Very nice trigger but I advise doing final adjustments when the rifle is hot, like at the end of a 20-25 shot string and add to hold it's so hot. Mine lost adjustment during tge 2nd match if the day at a midrange state championship. Totally ruinex day1. We adjusted that night. Same thing happened day 2. We olled it off the line and readjusted immediately after the match. it's been outstanding sincell then. You may not need to deal with this but a few other m70 shooters I know have had to do the same.

I need to figure out if mine is pre-MOA or not... how can I tell?

The Pre 64 CRF model 70s and the push feeds all have pre MOA triggers. Those triggers are very simple with no moving parts. The trigger is completely exposed within the stock and have hanger, spring and sear engagement adjustment. The Rifle Basix for that model is nealy identical and you can find an illustration of it to compare. The MOA trigger was introduced on the Model 70 after the action returned to a CRF and is contained within a housing similar to the Timney replacement trigger.

After talking with Russ, he had a similar issue. The m70s appear to require a bit more tuning than some of the other actions. I don't remember what action Russ had this issue with but he advised adjusting it hot, which fixed it. It's awesome now.

I have liked in the past the pre and post 64 M70 triggers for down to 2 lbs. I did buy a jewel and what a difference, I love it.

If your rifle is a short action, it is not pre-64. Winchester only started making short actions in the 1980's I believe.

The post 64 Model 70's were made in PF or CRF in both long and short actions with the original trigger design which has been replaced with the MOA trigger. Of interest, the FNH law enforcement and sniper rifles that use the CRF short and long actions use the pre MOA trigger. FNH owns Winchester firearms.
