Win M70 Action Questions

Joe C

Student of the 1911.
Hello,

I was wondering, can anyone advise me on some good vids or books on how best to true M70 actions? I have several that I want to build into precision hunting rifles for myself but am having a hard time finding any info online...and I have searched a bunch. Finding info on M700's is easy but it seems the M70 is not so much.

FWIW, I do have a properly made spider and as most of you who know me know, I can make pretty much anything on the lathe and mill that I desire so tooling isn't an issue.

Thank you so much in advance.

Try Manson Reamers and PT&G. Manson makes some hand tools to true Win. 70 actions. Pricey but worth it if you are doing two or more.

If you have a spider and correct bushings for the interior, you should be able to do the same as a 700. Much better than trying to do hit the tools that don't necessarily get you truly on the true center line.

As you probably guessed from lack of info its not done very often so youll have to use your skills and imagination to pick a spot youll call centerline. Threading a stub and using your spider jig to dial in the outboard and inboard runout on the threads before you single point them is my suggestion just like youd do with a range rod in a barrel. Indicating off the raceways will most times result in a half cleaned up thread on one end.
