wilsons seater blank?

How dificult is it to drill and ream a wilson micrometer seating blank? could any competent machinist or gunsmith do this?

Thanks

Depends on the machinist and smith if he is competent in doing it. If you ask the guy doing the work if he dials in the seater stem bore coaxially and if he says yes, go for it. If he looks at you goofy or ask what you are talking about...seek another. Like dusty said... You need your chamber reamer and a go gauge. Brass will work too.

Reamer access is no problem as its my reamer. I just ordered it last week and am waiting for it now from Manson .

ridgeway is spot on. Some smiths avoid trying it because they don't have a reamer bushing to match the seater stem bore. The instructions that come with the blanks make no mention of coaxial alignment and the blanks tend to vary quite a bit in concentricity. There is only a short section reamed to stem diameter, the rest of the bore is rough drilled. If you don't have a guy that can align, prebore, and ream to achieve near perfect alignment, the result will be no better than simply ordering a finished Wilson seater.

So basically you want to set it up by aligning it up with the stem bore so it perfectly center of the chamber.

Are the bushings something you can get from a machine shop or are they specific to chamber reamers? Just in case he doesnt have one to match the blank.

Yep, so chamber is concentric to stem. Reamer bushings can be purchased through reamer maker. You can also machine one out of bronze or brass to whatever size you need. Some will say bushing is not needed... I get that and understand that, but I like using a bushing. Helps keep any tool deflection in check when the neck/leade starts to cut.
