Wilson Seater Dies

Well after all these years, I decided to try a few Wilson Dies after several friends advised me to.

I had a BRX specially made and bought a 308 Micro seater.

In a lot of ways they are easier to use. Mostly getting the bullet concentricity on the money. Most of my rounds were .002 or less, ESPECIALLY on the BRX rounds.

This alone has me sold on the dies. I wish I started using them years ago.

+1. Wilson is all I use anymore for all my rifles. Gives best concentricity and depth seating with mic heads for accurate adjustments when needed or in testing.

PS: On my BRX rounds, I just hit the die with the palm of my hand and it's seated! The arbor press just get's in the way on the 6mm rounds!

I also loaded up some 308's, I used a orange hammer stricking it lightly. Again the concentricity was all acceptable.

Is this the way all Wilson seater dies are?

The seating pressure is pretty much a function of neck tension.

I just got mine if for a build that is in the process of getting finished up. They sure look good, I can't wait to start using them. :D Glad to hear they are easy to use.

Haven't used that type of dies for years and forgot just how good they could be. Recently I was trying to gather everything necessary to load for the 6.5 Grendel for an AR upper I have in the safe. All I could find in stock anywhere for the Grendel for a seating die was a Wilson seater. Sometimes good luck is forced on you by cirumstance, lol.... Wouldn't trade the Wilson for anything else.

I prefer to use them for every bolt action cartridge or AR rifle chambering I shoot in which sub MOA target accuracy is desired.

The only time I find Wilson Seater dies a problem is when I am using them for compressed loads. The bullets tend to get stuck in the seater plug, and the jacket will often get crimped and a little squeezed or deformed. I've tried polishing the plugs, but this does not eliminate the problem. Unfortunately, it seems a lot of loads for the popular 223 and 308 cartriges I use are compressed loads. Standard screw in seater dies never display this tendency to crimp the bullet jackets......but they don't seat as accurately as the Wilson Seaters.

I shoot BR with a barrel maker from Canada. I noticed he just uses the palm of his hand with a Wilson seater to seat his bullets. I figured he knew something I didn't, after all, this guy builds one of the best barrels out there. And yes, he feels like you, ( and me now ) that the arbor press just gets in the way. And it's $115. for the one I've got too !
Maybe a proper time to sell it and use the palm of my hand as well.
