wilson seater die sticks

hello
my 6BR loaded rounds stick in the in-line Wilson seater die, they form kind of a suction.i can somewhat cure it by over sizeing on the bump,,any one know the secret on this...thanks..LW

Can you get the case all the way in the die so the bottom of the die sits flat? If so, you don't have a problem--you just have a really good fit. You may need to use a screwdriver tip,or better yet a flat piece of plastic or wood) to get under the rim to move it the first little bit after the bullet is seated.

You may also want to degrease the inside of the die. A film of oil can create a gripping effect.

If you can't get the case all the way in then either: a) FL size the case, or,,b) send the die to Wilson to be honed a bit. We have one 6BR where the shoulder on the chamber came out a little bit wide. We FL-size the case each time. It's easy, and if anything, accuracy improved.

if it will drop out when pulling up the plunger that is good. You wouldn't want slop in the die. most custom dies I have seen hold the case until relesed.

I can't use my wilson seater,i bought it second hand on e-bay) with the lapua 105 scenars. The bullet tip is hitting the end of the hole in the seater stem. Can i bore it deeper or do you guy's have other ideas? Is there a suitable seater that i can order? Thanks Dave

We have a current version of the Wilson seater. The bullet tip is supposed to go into the recess in the seater stem. There's at least 1/2" free space up into the stem before you'd hit anything. What is the diameter of your seater stem? It should be .245" for a 6mm bullet. Note you can also adjust the length of the stem. There is a set-screw on the side of the top plug. Loosen that and you can move the shaft up and down. We're a little puzzled about what you're describing. Sounds like it might not be a 6mm die at all.

Thanks Lynn
For a while i was tapping the seater stem cap up and down,,kinda sounded like a wood pecker on a tree.but then I started pulling the stem all the way out, letting the air escape, then replacing the stem and giving it one Sharp tap on the top seemed to knock the loaded round out every time...LW

I was tapping and pulling. Now I just use the handle part of a set of small nail clippers--the tip fits right under the extractor groove and pops the case free without effort. I bet a popsicle stick would work as well. Just happened to have the clippers on my bench. I'm talking about the triangular end that you press with the base of your thumb.

I've run into the same thing with my Wilson seater. There is actually a little bit of vacuum with a seated round until I pull the seating stem out. A small lever under the case rim pops the case out. What you are seeing is precise machining and a product that is hard to beat.

Well, I'll probably catch some grief over this one... but all I do is when I lift the seating die body and the round *doesn't* come out on its own... I just tilt it over about 30 degrees from vertical, tap the base of the die on the rim of that little seater cup that the die sits in,all the ones I have came w/ one), and 99% of the time the case just slides right out. When it doesn't slide right out... a highly technical second, firmer) tap usually fixes the situation. No mucking about trying to lever some make-shift pry-bar device around the rim.

Works for me. YMMV.

folks,,its been so long sence i posted this i guess i forgot to tell you how i solved the problem..i pop the seater steam clear out of the die, then i replace it with a quick slap by hand forceing the air preasure to knock out the loaded round...thanks guys.and i promise to watch the board more careful in the future....lw
